Subliminal Aurra – The Next Phase
1990
Label: Fourth Floor Records – F-1119

Playing “The Mist (Fallout Mix)”

I absolutely love this track from the EP, and for me there are three reasons why.

Firstly, it samples two tracks from Jean-Michel Jarre’s Oxygène album from 1977, an album I grew up listening to. Big respect to my late father for introducing me to that album and the musical memories that have stayed with me.

Secondly, it samples the drums from Spoonie Gee and The Treacherous Three – “Love Rap” (1980). Love hearing how these different musical worlds come together.

And finally, because it’s simply brilliant.

Enjoy.

Current mood Paul Rutherford Get real sinister mix 1988

PAUL RUTHERFORD
Paul Rutherford, the co-founder of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, makes his solo debut with the release of Get Real, a new single on Island’s Fourth & Broadway label.
The record reveals a new direction for Rutherford’s music. For the past year he has immersed himself in House, creating a new style far removed from his work in Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
“Because of the bad situation surrounding the end of
the Frankies I did, at one point, consider leaving music altogether, “ says Rutherford. “I then got into House and discovered everything was possible.
“House seemed closely aligned to punk, which I was also heavily involved in. It was exciting to simply get up and do it myself; create a new, pure dance music.”
Rutherford contacted artists he admired who could help
interpret his new ideas. Martin Fry and Mark White of ABC leapt at the opportunity and within a week the new collaboration had resulted in five new songs.
Get Real is the first single, a fusion of all the many facets of House.
