Bored of hearing from us? This is what some of our regulars are taking on holiday with them.Miguel is going to the island of Iskia where the Ferrante novels are set. But he’s not reading them. Instead he’s gone for IA Genberg’s ‘Small Comfort’Not happy with settling for one, Uygar is heading to Antalya with ‘Small Boat’, ‘Moby Dick’, ‘Heart of Darkness’ and ‘Monsignor Quixote’ by Graham GreenShehr is going all out ‘Eurotrash’ on us in LisbonI forget where Patrick is going. We were distracted by Barry (see last slide). But he’s reading ‘Love Life of a Cheltenham Lady’Sam is taking Lena Dunham to Sicily. (He also just bought Madeleine Cash’s ‘Lost Lambs’ just incase he needed a second read.And finally Finlay is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe with the very apt ‘Surprisingly Down to Earth, and Very Funny’ autobiography by Limmy by @wearebardbooks

Book clubs coming up in July and August and September. You’ve still time to join July’s main book club next week depending on how long you take to read. And we’re taking a little August break - back in September. For something a bit different, @barrypierce has picked the Vivisectors for August’s New & Noteworthy, and our @thursday.london Singles Book Club is ‘I Want You To Be Happy’ by Jen Calder. Sign up online.Looking forward to September we also have @matteoquerinicrawford and Read Against The Machine with two books on Algeria to discuss. A lifetime ago, I *almost* opened a restaurant with the incredible chef @damian_clisby . Life obviously took me in a different direction but back then I said to him I wanted to adorn the walls and shelves with books, old and new, good and otherwise. Kind of like a history of what the restaurant meant and the journey we’d taken to get there. @dara.klein ‘s La Trattoria would have been there. It’s a book that reminds you that cookbooks are not just a list of recipes, but a memoir, a history, a real human story. Signed copies in the shop. And some delicious olives too.Thank you @dara.klein and @julielincooks for a lovely evening. by @wearebardbooks

Just some of the goings on in the shop the past two weeks.Authors aplenty, with authors @willhunterr and @lamowens stopping in to sign copies of their summer must reads, convos with @rid9way and @benjamin.pester as well as a reunion of the 2018 @thebookerprizes long and shortlists with @sophmcintosh chatting to Daisy Johnson about their latest books. And then a sold out @laughlinesopenmic in 30 degree heat, some calmer, cooler afternoons, and a lovely visit by some of the volunteers from the @bowfoodbank to collect boxes of books we donated to give out at their next food bank. Oh, and don’t forget our lovely reg Paul and his supreme t-shirt on our birthday. “Read books. Be kind. Stay weird.” by @wearebardbooks

Sunstruck author William Rayfet Hunter is next Under the Cover!Will’s debut novel, Sunstruck, is a Saltburn-esque story of a young man drawn into the intoxicating world of a wealthy family, as he falls for his friend’s charismatic brother. Shortlisted for the Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize, it looks at race, privilege and belonging in British society.It was a joy to chat to Will at their favourite indie, East London’s Bàrd Books (celebrating their 2nd birthday today!🎈)Let us know if you agree with their list!
