Your business can be growing and cash can still feel tight.

You may be waiting on a customer payment, stocking up for a busy season, or covering the costs of a new contract before you ever get paid.

That gap between money going out and money coming in is where working capital can help.

We broke down what working capital means, when it may be useful, and how it can help keep your business moving.

Sometimes, access starts with knowing what’s available and having the right people to talk to about your next step.

Our Director of Lending, Trey Alston, joined the City of Apopka’s Access to Capital Expo to connect with local business owners. For us, being present in communities across Central Florida matters because business owners should know who they can turn to when they are ready to grow, explore funding, or simply talk through what makes sense for their business.

We had a chance to build stronger connections in the local community, including meeting Apopka Mayor Nicholas Nesta and other local leaders working to support businesses in the area.

As businesses scale, having relationships with lenders and resource partners who understand your business and your goals can make a difference. Our panelists spoke about the importance of being prepared on paper, but also doing the work early to build relationships with lenders and resource partners who can help identify what your business may need to become ready for funding.

One of the most rewarding moments was when we heard from our client, Mitchell Learning Academy & their firsthand account of what intentional partnership can look like. Reshawndia Mitchell shared how staying connected with us gave her the funding and business support that helped them expand their centers and continue growing.

Thank you to the Truist team for seeing the value in bringing these conversations and connections directly to Jacksonville business owners, and to everyone who joined us and helped make the program such a success.

Government contracts aren't just for large corporations.

They're one of the biggest opportunities for small businesses but too many entrepreneurs don't know where to start or what it takes to compete.

That's why BBIF partnered with the City of Orlando to host Access to Capital & Government Contracts, equipping entrepreneurs with practical guidance on funding readiness, financial management, and the City's Small Business Enterprise (SBE) Certification Program.

Because when you have the right knowledge, resources, and relationships, you're better positioned to pursue new opportunities and grow your business with confidence.

At BBIF, we're committed to creating pathways that connect entrepreneurs with the tools they need to succeed—and this is just one of many ways we're investing in our small business community.

💬 What business topic would you like to see covered at a future BBIF event? Let us know in the comments.

Join us for Part Two of our Financial Literacy Workshop: From Clarity to Capital on What Lenders See in Your Numbers.

Together, we'll explore:
• What your inventory says about your business & what lenders see in your numbers.
• The key financial ratios that help measure business performance.
• How stronger invoicing and collections can improve your cash flow.
Whether you're planning for growth or simply want a better understanding of your business, we hope you'll join the conversation.

Last week, our CEO Ray Gilley, COO Duane Lewis, and CFO Oraine Reid joined CDFI leaders from across the country at the African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs Annual Conference in New Orleans.

Throughout the conference, they joined conversations on expanding access to capital, strengthening community lending, and exploring new strategies to help entrepreneurs and small businesses grow.

The experience was a powerful reminder of what's possible when mission-driven organizations come together around a shared purpose. They returned with new insights and renewed momentum to support the work happening in the communities we serve.

A special thank you to President Amber Banks and the African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs for hosting such a thoughtful and impactful conference.
