How do you stay motivated and keep chasing your dreams at almost 40?

I swear it felt easier as a kid. But as you get older and life gets more real, that fire that used to stay lit so naturally can start to fade. And you hit that crossroads where it feels like you only have two options: give up when it gets hard… or keep pushing even when the obstacles feel impossible.

Lately I’ve been battling my own fear around posting and putting myself out there. I’m used to having a team, having momentum, having people around me. Doing this solo has been a whole different kind of mental fight. And I’m trying to ignore that voice in my head that keeps whispering, “Don’t do it… you can’t do it… who do you think you are?”

So for real, how do you stay motivated when the doubt gets loud? What keeps you going? #lifelessons #motivation #adulting #fyp by @wearelucidcomics

Hey everyone!! 💫

I want to ask a small favor. If you get a minute, it would mean everything if you checked out my first ever comic, Audio Dreamland, dropping tomorrow at 11:11 AM on GlobalComix, free to read. Illustrated by my friend the wonderful @ricardo_oliverart and covers colored by @jaocanola

I never meant to release this. I wrote it as an anniversary gift for my wife, Melia. But it turned into something bigger, our love, our healing, and honestly, my therapy. After we lost our son, Stellar, coming back to this project (and leaning on Melia and our son, Qwest) helped me survive grief, anxiety, and trying to find myself again.

I’ll be real, the writing in Audio Dreamland isn’t as polished as my upcoming full-length graphic novel Dream Line (dropping next year). But that’s exactly the point. I had to let go of perfectionism and fear to even share this. Creating it helped me realize that growth only happens when we stop letting insecurity silence us, and that message is at the heart of every story I’m telling now.

What is Audio Dreamland?
It’s an 8-page comic + full soundtrack. Two artists (me and Melia) get dragged into a dream world ruled by the goddess Hathor, a place built from memory, music, and emotion, and are forced to face Fear, Shame, Doubt, Insecurity, and Ego. It’s about fighting your inner noise and finding your way back to purpose, love, and self.

How to experience it:
• Scan the QR codes on the cover and pages to hear the official Audio Dreamland soundtrack while you read.
• The music was created from my original unreleased We Are Lucid songs and brought to life through Suno under our alter ego, Saint Phoenix.
• If you just want the music, I’ll drop the full SoundCloud link in the post tomorrow at 11:11.

This project is pieces of my life, dance, music, story, love, all in one.

Thank you for rocking with me and I love you all!

🖤 See you in the dream tomorrow at 11:11 AM.

New page from DREAM LINE Issue #2.

On the surface, Dream Line might look like a story about a group of misfits and a kid from St. Louis trying to chase a dream. But underneath all that, it’s about mental health, addiction, trauma, identity, lucid dreaming, psychedelics, and that thin ass line between healing and escaping.

Inspired by stories like Blankets, The Sandman, Fight Club, and Juice, I want this story to keep peeling back layers the deeper we go.

This is one of the pages featuring a car chase in Dream Line #2; I’m really enjoying working on these chase scenes.

To be honest… I almost kept this one in my camera roll.
Not because I don’t love dancing. Because somewhere along the way, I started thinking too much and creating too little.

So here’s 35 seconds of me choosing the art.

If you’re a creator, a dancer, a writer, a musician… don’t let overthinking rob you of your gift

Stay lucid.

Having a blast writing this car chase scene.

I really wanted to challenge myself with this one because action in comics can fall flat if it isn’t carefully thought out. It’s easy to make something look cool. It’s a whole different challenge to make the reader feel the speed, the tension, and the chaos.

From day one, my approach to Dream Line has been simple:

How do I make every page feel cinematic?

With the help of @ricardo_oliverart I honestly feel like we’re starting to become one hell of a team. Every issue pushes us to level up, and I think it’s showing.

Dream Line is inspired by my love for films like Juice, Inception, Drop Dead Fred, and You Got Served, along with comics like Moon Knight, Limbo, and Transgression. All of those influences have collided into something that feels fresh, personal, and original.

I grew up loving superheroes. I fell in love with fantasy, horror, psychological thrillers, sci-fi, and hip hop culture. Dream Line is what happens when all of those worlds crash into each other through a raw, grounded, and gritty lens, with hip hop at the heart of it all.

I can’t wait for y’all to see where this story goes.

Be honest…
you almost quit, didn’t you?

Most people don’t quit when it’s loud…
they quit when it gets quiet.

When it’s just you vs you…
that’s when it gets real.

Dream Line might fool you at first, it looks like teen chaos, but it’s really a deep dive into chasing dreams, facing truths, and walking your own spiritual path, even if it’s messy. Jody’s taking us on a rollercoaster, trust me, it’s worth the ride. Big love to @ricardo_oliverart , this would not be possible without you and I am truly grateful and honored to work with you. We’re still grinding, still growing, and I can’t wait for you to see what’s coming. Stay Lucid. #comicstrip #comicsketch #comicbookart #comicbookcommunity by @wearelucidcomics
