This Ramadan, help us build a safe home for Muslim women escaping violence. 🏡💜

Last year alone, Malikah distributed over $50,000 in mutual aid across Queens, supporting rent, groceries, medical bills, and urgent survival needs for women navigating crisis. Our community has consistently stepped in when safety was at risk.

But we have seen a hard truth. Without safe housing, many women remain trapped in violence. When there is nowhere safe to go, harm continues.

This shelter is the next step, moving from emergency mutual aid to long term safety and housing stability. It will be a culturally grounded, faith rooted home where women can rest, rebuild, and live without fear.

We were grateful to welcome the Mayor’s Office of Mass Engagement’s Muslim, African, and Queens liaisons to Malikah this week for an important conversation about the needs, challenges, and opportunities facing our community here in Astoria.

We shared what we’re seeing on the ground, from the realities facing immigrant and working-class families to the growing need for culturally responsive safety, housing, healing, and community resources, and explored ways we can work together to better serve our neighbors.

From the Wellness on Wheels garden straight to @wearemalikah's Halal Fridge in Astoria, Queens!

These past two weeks, our garden has been flourishing. We've harvested tons of fresh vegetables, such as peas, eggplants, carrots, and much more 🫛🥕🍆

So we wanted to put this produce to use by donating it to a community that needs it the most. This weekend, our team donated all the produce to Malikah's Astoria Halal Fridge. This initiative supports food insecure families across Queens and we are beyond grateful that our vegetables could be delivered to them. We also stopped by a local grocery store to grab a few extra non perishable items for donation! 🌟🌟🤸🏽‍♀️💕

Join us for a summer day at Manhattan Beach for Muslim women to relax, connect, and enjoy the ocean together🌊☀️⛱️🏝️✨

Muslim Women’s Beach Day is returning to Manhattan Beach for another summer afternoon by the ocean, a chance to slow down, meet new people, and spend a day outside that just feels good.

If you came last year, you already know how special this is. If you didn’t, this is your sign!

We’ll have beach games, music, space to relax, swimming, and plenty of time to just be by the water. We will also have a free self-defense class at the beach. Come with friends or come alone and you’ll naturally meet people once you’re there.

Free prebiotic soda will very kindly be provided by @covesoda 🥤💜

Join us this Sunday for Malikah’s Monthly Membership Majlis💜✨ Malikah Majlis is our monthly gathering for the Malikah community.

Join us to slow down, connect, and spend intentional time together in real life.

We’ll share updates from Malikah, talk through what’s happening in our communities, and hold space for meaningful conversation, reflection, and getting to know each other more deeply. We are also going to be doing a mini know your rights immigration workshop.

Last month, our Founder and Executive Director joined @govkathyhochul, frontline organizations, and elected officials to discuss the urgent impact of ICE enforcement on our communities. As an organization rooted in one of the most diverse boroughs we shared what we’re witnessing on the ground: growing fear, uncertainty, and the dehumanizing impact that the ongoing presence and threat of ICE has had on our immigrant families.

We also spoke about the importance of investing in community-led safety, including know-your-rights education, rapid response, and trainings that equip our neighbors with the tools to protect themselves and one another.

Our communities deserve to live with dignity, safety, and without fear. At Malikah, we remain committed to strengthening our collective response and standing alongside immigrant communities every step of the way.
