Last year, MITC were honoured to be invited to support the @radiohead European tour, joining during rehearsals and providing confidential 24/7 Tour Check-Ins while they were out on the road.

@philipselway has written in The Guardian about his experiences when Radiohead first started out — the rapid shift from playing small venues in Oxford to months out on the road in the US, the pressure and isolation that came with it, and how that stress eventually showed up in his playing.

Philip also talks about what helped: meaningful connection, having a manager notice he was struggling and make space to talk, and learning from other artists who had been there before.

Philip has volunteered with Samaritans for 40 years, including 15 years as a listening volunteer, and he and his wife Cait are now backing MITC’s new Pay It Forward Fund alongside 9 other founding funders - @aegworldwide @flybynite_trucking @dbaudiotechnik @live.free.999 @livenation @locktoneur @the.team.music @universalpixelsvideo.

Pay It Forward is a preventative healthcare programme for smaller tours, working with those leading tours, with teams as a whole, and with individuals who need somewhere confidential to talk.

Thanks to Philip and Cait and our 9 other founding funders, we’ll be supporting around 150 tours over the next three years, at no cost to the tour.

Today’s the day! 🎉 Applications are now open for our most ambitious project to date: the Pay It Forward Fund.

Over the next three years, we’ll provide specialist Tour Health packages to ✨ 150 tours ✨, completely free to the artists and touring teams taking part.

Pay It Forward is built around two principles: healthy touring is a shared responsibility, and good health shouldn’t be a luxury.

The idea grew from our work with stadium and arena tours. We began suggesting that clients pay forward their unused MITC Tour Check-Ins into a shared pot for tours with fewer resources. And that got us thinking: hang on a minute, what if we did this on a much bigger scale? 🧐💡

So we took the idea out to the industry and this lot got behind it, committing their support for three years. A huge thank you to our Founding Funders: @aeg_presents @dbaudiotechnik @flybynite_trucking @live.free.999 @livenation @locktoneur @philipselway @the.team.music and @universalpixelsvideo. 💜

🚨GREAT NEWS!!! MITC is now a registered non-profit 🚨

What does that mean? It means we are VALUES-LED and PURPOSE-DRIVEN, with a mission to make specialist psychological care accessible to the #musicindustry 24/7 on a global scale 🌍

🎙️Reflecting on the significance of this new status, @tamsinembleton shares, “Becoming a non-profit gives us the structure to deliver what the music industry needs most right now – flexible, creative, clinically robust support that meets people where they are. It allows us to keep innovating, respond quickly to real-world pressures, and reinvest directly into the artists, crews and teams who keep this industry running.”

What an inspiring day yesterday at the @musicweekinsta Women in Music Awards!

It’s great to have an opportunity to hear about and celebrate the incredible achievements of women in music. We always come away so energised!! 🤩

When dynamics are strained and you’re living and working together for weeks or months at a time, it can really affect you... and yet we don’t really think about the people side of touring until something goes wrong. Really wrong.

That’s part of the thinking behind Pay It Forward: sharing our knowledge on supporting individuals and teams through the highs and lows of life on the road.
