Letters EP is now streaming on all platforms! 💌*
Friends, this is so much more than it seems. Cool if you read, also cool if not - I wrote it for me.

After graduating college and trying to find my footing as an adult, I quietly withdrew into myself musically. I’d spent most of my life in school bands and structured rehearsal settings, without realizing how much I depended on that default. When music wasn’t built into my day-to-day anymore, I kinda lost my shit.

I found new forms of fulfillment - through my job, hobbies, friendships, and deepening my relationship with @g.sherbs - but there was still a hole where music used to be. I didn’t know how to fill it.

Last September, I started hitting open jams at @chrisjazzcafe to shake off the rust and play guitar socially again. Two years out of school, it weirdly felt like dating: hyping myself up to talk to strangers, learning songs like they were conversation starters, trying to have fun. One night I met @snitzer_ while we were both sitting in on rhythm section. We traded socials, and he told me about a track he’d been producing - Miss Me, a collab with vocalist @leahannasavin.

I was hooked. After one session, we all felt it could be something bigger. Eight months later, Letters EP was born, and @wearenotrain became a real band. It’s a huge stylistic shift for me and the first time I’ve done serious vocals on a studio project. These two gave me the confidence and space to try things I’d never done - and became great friends in the process.

This 20-minute EP is the result of three musical journeys converging to create something none of us could’ve made alone. It’s eclectic, a little messy, and IMHO really fucking good. I hope you love listening to Letters EP as much as we loved making it.

Letters EP. She’s finally here- our baby, our pride and joy, the culmination of four years of hard work. I have never been prouder to put my name on a project. Letters began as an assignment for a songwriting class my senior year of college. I knew I wanted to share my music but hadn’t the faintest idea how to do it. I was working alone. I had so much to learn.

The summer after graduation, I met Josh. I knew almost immediately we would be lifelong friends. Josh believes in my songs more than I believe in them. He is the heart and soul of this project, the glue in our little family. He is also one of the most brilliant musicians I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Josh brought us Jason, at first just to lay guitar tracks for the few songs we had recorded. Jason quickly won me over (as he does everyone) with his positivity, humor, insight, and legendary riffs. It quickly became clear that he was essential to our sound and a most wonderful addition to our lives.

At a certain point, I considered the songs I had written and realized they were no longer only mine. The three of us had created something special. Whatever we put out into the world had to come from the collective, and thus, Not Rain was born.

Letters holds within it so much love, pain, curiosity, and laughter. It is a reflection of some of my worst moments and a few of my most cherished memories. We had an absolute blast making it. It’s yours now. I hope you’ll have a blast listening. by @wearenotrain
