We have three reasons to celebrate at this year’s masi DESIGN AWARDS!

We’re excited to share that AltaGas Head Office and 801 Seventh have been named finalists for the 2026 awards, which also mark 10 years of celebrating interior design excellence across the Prairie provinces!

From rethinking how people connect in the workplace to breathing new life into an existing downtown building, these projects reflect the creativity of our teams and the potential of thoughtful interior design to transform how spaces are experienced.

Tomorrow, our Creative Director Ian Franceschi will be in Winnipeg representing Zeidler at the masi AT THE MET Design Awards Gala.

A big congrats to our project teams, clients, and collaborators, and to all the talented designers being recognized this year. We’re looking forward to celebrating a decade of design excellence with our Prairie design community!

Still thinking about this night. 🥂

Last month, we brought together clients, collaborators, colleagues and friends for our annual Calgary Client Appreciation Event at Teatro.

It’s become one of our favourite traditions, a chance to step away from project meetings and deadlines, reconnect with familiar faces, make new connections and celebrate the people we’re fortunate to work alongside.

The room was packed, the conversations carried well into the evening, and the energy was exactly what we’ve come to love about this night!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our Calgary team for bringing it all together. We’re already looking forward to next year.

Yesterday we celebrated a major milestone at 606 4th Street SW with the completion of the building envelope.

Think of it as the adaptive reuse version of a topping-off ceremony. Instead of celebrating the height of a new building, we marked an important step in transforming this 1969 downtown office tower into a new place to call home.

When complete, the project will bring 166 new rental homes to the heart of downtown Calgary, while keeping retail at street level and its connection to the +15 network.

By giving an existing downtown tower a second life, 606 4th Street will bring new homes and activity to a well-connected part of the city.

A big thank you to @itcconstructiongroup  for hosting the celebration, and to the entire project team: @dreamdotca, @entuitive, @reinboldengineeringgroup, @nemetzsa, @truong.lydesign, pLAnt studio, and our team at Zeidler.

We can’t wait to see people calling 606 4th Street home.

A site is never a blank canvas.

Yesterday on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Meighan King Wall of Two Row Architect joined our Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto teams for a conversation about design, land, relationships and the assumptions we bring into practice.

Meighan spoke about Two Row’s approach to placekeeping and the importance of staying connected to people, process and land from the very beginning of a project.

What stayed with us was a simple but important idea: good design isn’t only about the outcome. It’s also about how we listen, who we learn from and the relationships we build along the way.

We’re grateful to Meighan for sharing her story and perspective with us.

Congratulations to Keegan Muth, the 2025–2026 recipient of the N. Bruce Spankie Memorial Architectural Graduate Scholarship!

This annual award was created in memory of Bruce Spankie, former Senior Associate at BKDI (now Zeidler Architecture), and supports outstanding Master of Architecture students at the University of Calgary.

Keegan shared: “Knowing that my work is recognized and supported encourages me to keep pushing myself creatively and academically. I am truly grateful for your generosity and your investment in students like me. Thank you for helping me continue working toward my goals in architecture!”

Keegan recently completed his Master of Architecture in Environmental Design, an academic journey that took him across three University of Calgary locations, from the main campus to the City Building Design Lab and, finally, SAPL’s new home at The Valentine (also a Zeidler project!).

His graduate work explored architecture across a range of scales and challenges. Featured here are Landscope, a non-collecting art museum shaped by Calgary’s surrounding natural context; Basecamp, a modular residential prototype exploring a new housing model for Canmore; and Colour Coded, a hybrid modular system for the efficient design and construction of engaging elementary schools.

Now beginning his career in architecture, Keegan is looking ahead to pursuing architectural licensure in Alberta and continuing to build on the ideas and ambitions developed throughout his studies.

At Zeidler, we’re proud to support academic awards that celebrate the next generation of design talent.

What connects a workplace to its people, and a building to its city?

Thoughtful design.

Two of our Calgary projects were recently featured in Canadian Interiors, with each article exploring how interior design can shape connection at a different scale.

At AltaGas Head Office, that connection begins with workplace culture. Across six floors, the design brings people together through a central stair, shared amenities, access to daylight, and a range of collaborative and focused settings designed around different ways of working.

At 801 Seventh Avenue, connection extends into the city. Once an underused office lobby, the space has been reimagined as a more active civic threshold, linking Calgary’s CTrain, Plus 15 network, and surrounding public realm with new places to gather, learn, and engage. It is also home to the University of Calgary’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape.

Different projects, one shared belief: design matters most when it creates the right conditions for people to connect.

We’re grateful to Canadian Interiors for recognizing the thinking behind these projects, and to our clients, collaborators, and project teams who brought them to life.

We’re bringing home an ARIDO Award!

Last night, 801 Seventh Avenue was recognized with a 2026 @ARIDO Award in the DISTINCT category.

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is what sits behind the finished spaces: clients willing to rethink what an existing building could become, project partners who helped resolve the details, and design teams focused on creating places that work better for the people who use them.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who helped bring 801 Seventh Avenue to life, and grateful to @ARIDO and this year’s jury for the recognition.

Two projects. Two Canadian cities. Two different ideas about what an interior can do. And one exciting night ahead.

We’re going into the 2026 @ARIDO Awards Gala this Thursday with two projects named as finalists.

At University Commons at the @ualberta in Edmonton, a 1922 academic building has become a shared campus front door, bringing daylight, student services, learning spaces, and places to pause together within a central atrium. It’s a space shaped around belonging and the different ways students experience campus life.

At 801 Seventh Avenue in Calgary, circulation became something more. A social stair, a spiral stair, and a digital art installation turned an underused lobby and atrium into places to gather, learn, meet, and connect with the city beyond.

University Commons is a finalist in the LEARN+ category, and 801 Seventh Avenue in DISTINCT+.

We’ll find out what happens tomorrow, September 17. Until then, we’re celebrating the people, clients, and inspiration that brought both projects to life!

The sawdust has settled. Now it’s public vote time at @gotimberfever 👀🪵

This year’s teams took on the Pollinator Landing brief, designing and building full-scale timber structures in just four days.

We were happy to be back supporting TimberFever again this year, with Yasin Visram serving on the judging panel, Matthew Firestone mentoring Team 9: Bee-coming Aware, and Patrick Li mentoring Team 11: The Living Curve.

It was a fun few days of big ideas, quick decisions, and learning by building. We loved seeing how quickly ideas evolve when architecture, engineering, and a tight deadline all collide. Thanks for having us @gotimberfever and @mosesstructures

Head to @gotimberfever to check out the projects and vote for your favourite. Voting link is in our story and their bio.

Six floors. 550 employees. One elliptical floor plate that most architects would call a planning headache — and Zeidler Architecture turned it into the whole concept.

AltaGas just proved that a legacy office tower doesn't need to be torn down to work for how people actually work today. Partnering with Zeidler Architecture and Colliers Workplace Strategy, the company reimagined 130,000+ square feet across Levels 10–15 of Calgary's 701 Fifth Avenue Place — without a single demolition.

The twist? The building's unusual elliptical floorplate, rather than a constraint, became the organizing logic for the entire redesign. Every floor uses the same planning modules, so employees can navigate Level 11 as easily as Level 14. A new internal staircase ties all six floors together like a shared street, pulling meeting spots, informal gathering areas, and even IT and mail services into the everyday flow of the office. And daylight and views — traditionally reserved for corner offices — are now shared far more equitably across the floor plate.

The result: a headquarters built for focus and collaboration to genuinely coexist, and a compelling case study for the dozens of North American companies weighing whether to build new or retrofit what they already have.
