A space for creative grief support.
All grief is welcome, no matter the cause. Psychotherapist- Individuals & Groups. Adoption, Grief & Loss.

POSTS STORIES REELS

Weaving Memories is a space where we welcome you and your grief, no matter the cause. We invite you to come and spend time with other people, getting creative, making use of all of the yarns and fabrics that we have on offer here as you create something that will be infused with meaning. If you have any items of significance that represent your loss, you are welcome to bring them along to incorporate into your finished item, for example fabrics, clothing, beads, buttons. This is purely optional and there is no need to bring anything as we trust you will find just what you need here.

Our next workshop is on Sunday, 13 September, 10am-3pm

All details are in the link in bio.

The gentle, rhythmic process of weaving became a source of comfort for me during a personal time of loss.

The movement, the texture, the slow unfolding of something new, held me as I traversed my emotions.

From this experience, Weaving Memories was born. A space where grief is met with creativity, where emotions can be expressed through the hands when words are hard to find.

As a Gestalt Psychotherapist, I have spent years holding space for individual clients and facilitating creative making workshops.

I realised that weaving, a practice that had supported me so deeply, could also provide comfort for others navigating loss. Even for those who had never considered creativity as part of their healing process.
Seemed like a perfect match for me, combining the two.

At Weaving Memories, we gather in community, so you are not alone in your grief. You are held in the company of other women who share this journey, who understand the depth of loss and who offer their presence as a quiet source of support.

Together, through creativity, connection and shared stories, we weave something new. Not to ‘fix’ grief but to carry it forward in a meaningful way.

Grief can feel all consuming at times. The urge might be to keep to yourself. Socialising or even being with people you love can feel too much in the thought of stepping outside, overwhelming.

Our world becomes narrow and even if we know that being outside is good for us, how do we make that happen?

Something as simple as getting into nature and taking in your surroundings can offer a break from the weight of it all.

The senses act as a doorway to a more expensive experience, as your attention is redirected and turned out with.

When you look at the horizon, your nervous system shifts from a state of stress to one of calm.

Our fossicking companion is designed as a guide with seven daily prompts to invite you to explore your local environment and hopefully give your mind a break.
Each of the days has an invitation that draws your attention to something different. This may offer a completely new experience or perhaps a different way of perceiving your environment. When we spark curiosity, our feelings of anxiety have less room, as the mind & attention is taken elsewhere.

This time we’re talking about how in modern day we lack opportunities to be in community, alongside each other, during times of loss & hardship.

Our Weaving Memories groups offer a way way to emulate what our ancestors understood about the importance of being together.

Our next One-Day Retreat is on Sunday 15th November, 10-3 in our Fairlight Studio.
All details are in the link in bio.

Something you might like to know about our studio is that it’s small, cosy, homely and intimate.
Bigger isn’t always better!

The space is filled with eclectic furniture, and collections, soft colours, fabrics and yarns and handmade creations hanging on the walls.
Much of watts in this space has been collected over decades and holds many memories.

people often say that being in here is like receiving a warm hug.

Because of the size, people often feel more comfortable and held, whether we are a small group of three or a bigger group of seven.

If you’re wanting to come to one of our Day Retreats, we have two remaining dates this year.

Sunday 15th November
Sunday 13th December

You’ll find all the details in the link in bio.

One of the cool things about beach combing is that every location has something different, waiting to be discovered.
You literally never know what you might find. This element of surprise can evoke a child like sense of wonder…. Look at all of the colours, shapes and patterns in this video! (Not my usual beach😉)

What might you discover if you visit a location you wouldn’t normally go to?

Many find fossicking and beach combing to be calming ways to help you be in the moment and take a break from your thoughts.
When we engage our curiosity, our mind is directed away from our concerns. So simple and yet easy to overlook.

We have created a free downloadable Fossicking Companion that will help you on your way to discovering or perhaps enriching this mindfulness practice.

Take our Fossicking Companion on a little journey to one of your favourite outdoor locations. It doesn’t have to be the beach… and spend time getting curious and engaging your senses. Let us know how you go🧡

This visit to the beach was motivated by the “need” to replenish my beach finds!
My eye seemed to be drawn to things with holes in them. It happens that way sometimes….a theme will emerge.
There were a couple of treasures for my collection…a smooth piece of Bakelite & the tiniest of sea urchins, so delicate it needed its own container…
Spending time in nature, engaging my senses & curiosity are things I can do to settle my mind & body.
If this appeals to you & you’re not sure how to get started, we’ve created a free Fossicking Companion that includes 7 days of prompts & invitations to explore your environment. Link in bio for your copy.

If you're missing a baby and could use a day that's just for you, I could not recommend this workshop more.
This Saturday the 24th, 10am- 3pm, in Fairlight! by @weaving.memories

We know that reaching out for Support with grief and loss can feel like a really big step.

And sometimes, hearing about a space through someone we know and trust can make that step feel a little easier.

That’s why we rely so much on word-of-mouth to help women find their way to us.

We’ve put together these little information packs and we’d love your help sharing them.

Perhaps you know someone who might benefit, or a local business or professional who could pass our details on.

We’d be very happy to pop a pack in the post to you. Just send us a message and we’ll take care of the rest.

Your quiet word of support can make such a difference.
And the crocheted heart is yours to keep🧡

We acknowledge that the grief space is a vulnerable place to be & it takes courage to come along to one of our workshops.

Of course we could talk for hours about what we offer & how we feel it may benefit you….

But sometimes it’s better to hear it directly from the people who’ve experienced it.

Rather than taking our word for it, here’s some thoughts & reflections that women have shared after spending time with us.
