On Wednesday, May 28th at 12:40 pm, we said goodbye to the most perfect girl, my Bailey. We were home, it was peaceful & I held her til the very end. Her last few days were spent doing all of her favorite things. We camped at the beach with my parents & got all the extra love from them. We walked & felt the sand on our feet, listened to her favorite songs & got lots of treats. When we came home, her ā€œDahā€ was waiting for us & we spent her last days closely together as a family. She was spoiled with all kinds of home cooked meals & snacks, extra four-wheeler rides, lots of cuddles, porch hangouts & endless kisses & I love yous. The morning we knew our time together was ending, Matt managed to get a few good, happy tail wags out of her, we went on a long car ride, she made her rounds in the backyard & ate the best cheeseburger ever. I held her close & ā€œdancedā€ with her (a daily ritual for us both) one last time. I thanked her for all of the unconditional, pure, never ending love she gave us, thanked her for all of the precious moments & joy she brought into our lives. We talked about how she really gave us purpose & how much of an honor it was to take care of her. We told her we loved her so much & then we let her go. She is now free of pain, her lungs are working properly again, her teeth are perfect, she can finally SEE again & I know she was thrilled to see her brother waiting for her across that rainbow bridge. While we’re relieved she’s no longer suffering, Matt and I are completely heartbroken that she’s gone. There’s hardly been a moment where one of us hasn’t broken down into tears. Our house feels so lifeless & empty. We had 12 beautiful years with Bailey but I selfishly want more. Someone may read this all & say ā€œit’s just a dogā€ but I’m mourning her in the same way I would mourn my parents or anyone else I love so deeply. She & her brother both truly took a piece of my soul with them when they passed. I can’t wait to be reunited with them one day but for now, we have to sit in this heartache. Missing Bailey is so hard. She was the best girl. My best friend. 🩷 by @webbsofgreen

I know it’s been a minute. šŸ™ƒ

Today’s the first day in a while I’ve really managed to hang out with my plants and just piddle around so please, enjoy this reel that feels very much like a 2000s PowerPoint to me. Sometimes you just want to make meaningless, goofy content, ya know. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

One last look at summer…

Truly a beautiful growing season but now everything (minus the cacti and succulents) has been moved into the house. It’s bittersweet but I honestly just don’t have the bandwidth currently to keep the greenhouse functioning all fall and winter. Last slide was my final snapshot before pulling everything out. 🄲

Here’s to next year. šŸ’š by @webbsofgreen

Always a sucker for the things that are a little out of the ordinary. šŸ™‚

This is an Edithcolea grandis aka the ā€˜Persian carpet plant’. I randomly came across one in an online plant group last year and added it to my wishlist. Didn’t think I’d ever actually find one but the Florida Ace Hardwares clearly have the goods. I found it while in St. Augustine a few weeks ago and several days after I got it home and settled, I noticed a flower bud forming. It may have taken the place of my favorite bloom of all time because I am literally blown away by how stunning it is. It’s another carrion flower, so it definitely reeks of rotting meat but it’s absolutely rewarding to see. Weirdos forever. <3

Life update/my thoughts/photo dump/this is not at all about plants like usual. I know a lot of these pictures are random and don’t go with what I’m about to say but they are all just literally snapshots of my life lately.

It almost feels embarrassing or shameful to share any of this. It feels like there is such a stigma around miscarriages and people just…don’t talk about them. So many women experience them and because they’re not talked about it feels incredibly isolating when you’re living through it. I am not sharing any of this to garner sympathy or the like. I just need to get it out and get it off my chest. It doesn’t feel right to me, to sit here in silence after losing a baby and pretend like it never happened. I am grieving a little life and soul that will never be.

On June 28th I had my first ever positive pregnancy test. Outside of Matt, I excitedly shared with a few close friends and we waited til our official confirmation appointment to start sharing the news with our family/other people. For so long we had the mindset of not wanting kids and the day that all changed and became reality, the excitement was real. I finally got to tell my parents, which was every bit of the reaction I knew it would be. Just, completely over the moon, joy. They never saw it coming and it is a sweet memory I’ll always hold.

I prayed every day for a just a healthy, thriving baby and at almost 9 weeks we went in for our first ultrasound so excited and full of hope. Unfortunately, the baby was measuring two weeks behind and didn’t have a heartbeat. I think we were in such shock that it didn’t really register. We were told it’s kind of a ā€œgrey areaā€ where dating could be wrong and it could just be too early. But at the same time we were told it could possibly be a ā€œmissed miscarriageā€ and to be cautiously optimistic. It was a very wishy-washy conversation and we left so upset about how it all went down. We remained in a limbo of uncertainty and anxiety for two weeks waiting for HCG results and a second ultrasound for confirmation. I still felt pregnant. I still felt symptoms of progressing like normal. I had zero signs of a miscarriage. There were so many times we sa by @webbsofgreen

Sharing my bulbophyllum hybrid again because she’s giving me double blooms this time around. These weirdos are the coolest. :)

Here’s a stinky little weirdo for your viewing. šŸŖ°ā™„ļø

First time blooms for this Stapelia schinzii! I’ve had this one for a little over a year and outside of just growing its stems it hasn’t done much until I noticed a few buds while recently watering. In true carrion flower fashion, it reeks like something šŸ’€ but man what a cool bloom.

This one is getting a little difficult to get into the frame. Actually used to just dream of owning this plant at this size and here we are! šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

Also, I’m not one for using trending songs but I can’t escape this one and it’s been in my head all day, every day since I first heard it. 😌

So, if we ever talk about Anthurium, I will tell you I have zero idea what I am doing when it comes to caring for them… That being said, I was piddling in the greenhouse today and went to move this guy and was kind of shook by this new leaf I didn’t even know had emerged. It is the largest anthurium leaf I think I have ever had in my care. Granted, this is a Crystallinum and they are pretty easy going, but this feels like an accomplishment. When I don’t fully understand something I tend to get disenfranchised with it pretty quickly and I swear every time I feel that way about this specific genus, it pulls me right back in. šŸ˜‚

Sharing this little blooper I’ve had sitting in my drafts for a while. She’s still super cute even with her blemish. I did this back in April and now this plant is currently preparing to flower and put out another new leaf. 😌

BUT, lesson learned to not touch fresh anthurium leaves and to make sure the reservoir is topped off so there’s no risk of it tipping off the shelf.

I’m glad to see this philodendron is becoming more available because it grows so beautifully and I feel like it’s such a staple in any plant collection. I love the minty green leaves on this ā€œFlorida Ghostā€! They have started to really get big. You can swipe to see what this one looked like in October 2023! She’s going to outgrow this pole soon and I’m planning to let her grab onto the greenhouse wall. 😬

And, don’t mind that bit of bare stem in the middle. A few of her leaves were spider mite victims so a chop was necessary. She is working on some new growth points though and I can’t wait to see it fill in there. :)

Came home from our family vacation to a sweet little surprise! 🩷

I love a carnosa bloom and my compacta doesn’t do this super often so it’s always a little treat. They smell exactly like a tootsie roll. :)
