🏃‍♂️ Run Sydney Marathon
2025 Sydney Marathon – Seg 17–18

1️⃣7️⃣~ 1️⃣8️⃣ 19.2 ~ 22 km
📍E S Marks Athletics Field -> Juniors Kingsford Station
👉 Gentle downhill recovery, use the momentum to pick up pace and prepare for the second half!

After passing E.S. Marks Athletics Field at 19.2K, we continue south along Anzac Parade, running through Kensington—a vibrant residential and academic hub in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. This area is home to UNSW and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).

⛪ Around the 20K mark, we pass St George Coptic Orthodox Church, a spiritual home for Sydney’s Coptic community since 1973.

🚈 Anzac Parade also follows the L3 light rail line, connecting the city to the southeast. Both Kensington and Kingsford are undergoing the K2K renewal project, aiming to create a greener, more walkable, and cyclist-friendly community with better transport access and local business spaces.

💡 With fewer visual changes along this stretch, it’s easy to feel mentally flat. Focus on your breathing and foot rhythm to stay grounded and consistent. This is a good time to reset and prepare for the kilometers ahead.

2025 Sydney Marathon – Seg 16/33

1️⃣6️⃣ 17.5 ~ 19.2 km
📍Moore Park Golf Course -> E S Marks Athletics Field
👉 Downhill recovery, stay focused, check your route!

🌿 From 17.5K, we head south along Anzac Parade, passing the scenic Moore Park Golf Course — a lush oasis in the city since 1926.

⛳ At 18.1K, we turn onto Dacey Ave for a 600m loop through the course. Keep your pace steady and your breath relaxed.

🏟️ At 19.2K, we pass E.S. Marks Athletics Field — a historic track and Team USA’s training base before the 2000 Olympics.

💡 Sun’s out! Stay cool and hydrated — grab a quick sip at Water Station 3 (17.5K), and fuel up if needed before 20K.

Run Sydney Marathon 2025
Sydney joins the ranks of the world’s top 7 city marathons, with over 25,000 runners taking part in 2024!

Next year’s race starts on Miller Street, North Sydney, right beside North Sydney Oval — echoing the historic starting line of the 2000 Olympic Marathon.

The route has been refined for 2025: tighter loops around Darling Harbour and Pyrmont have been replaced with longer, straighter stretches, and fewer U-turns for a smoother race flow.

2025 Sydney Marathon – Seg 15/33

1️⃣5️⃣ 16 ~ 17.5 km
📍Flinders Street -> Moore Park Golf Course
👉 Gentle uphill, maintain your pace, hydrate at 17.5 km before continuing!
🏃‍♂️ Pace: This section is a continuous uphill for about 1.5 km, with a steeper gradient.
💧 Drink Station 3 available at 17.5 km

🏞️ Welcome to Moore Park!

After crossing Flinders Street, we hit Anzac Parade — a long, open stretch named after the ANZAC heroes. It’s where the city fades into green space, and the course begins to breathe.

👟 One side is the sweeping lawns of Moore Park, the other, Sydney Boys & Girls High Schools — historic public schools with serious academic cred. It’s scenic, but don’t be fooled — shade is scarce, and once the sun’s up, it gets warm fast.

💡 This part is flat with a slight incline. The open view can mess with your pacing — too easy to speed up, or space out. Stay steady, breathe deep, and don’t burn your fuel too soon.

📣 Bonus energy boost if you catch cheering squads here — especially the student groups. Their voices might just power you through to 17K!

🏃‍♂️ 2025 Sydney Marathon – Segment 14/33

1️⃣4️⃣ 15 ~ 16 km

📍Oxford St. Entrance-> Flinders Street
👉 Gentle downhill, keep your breathing steady, move forward without rushing!
💧 No water station. If carrying personal water, take small sips.

At 14K, we enter Darlinghurst, crossing two of Sydney’s iconic streets — Oxford St & Flinders St.

🏳️‍🌈 Once the nightlife hub of the ’80s, Darlinghurst is still home to the famous Sydney Mardi Gras.
🛍️ Oxford St = fashion, beauty & cool bars.
🏠 Flinders St = historic homes like the 1850s Flinders Manor House.
🌳 Hit 16K just before entering Moore Park. Big energy, great vibes — you’re doing amazing!

1️⃣3️⃣ 13 ~ 15 km

📍25 Martin Place -> Oxford St. Entrance
👉 Keep your breathing steady and tackle each segment!
🏃‍♂️ Pace: A continuous 2 km gentle uphill, it’s recommended to slow down by 8-12 sec/km compared to your flat pace

✂️ 2K in Two Parts!

🏙️ Part 1: We zigzag out of the business district—north on Castlereagh, right-right-right onto Macquarie. Say hi to three iconic churches (🙏 blessings, please!), then get ready to enter Hyde Park at Queen’s Square.

🌳 Part 2: Boom—green everywhere! A long, shady stretch through Hyde Park gives your eyes (and lungs) a break. Keep pace, but don’t burn out.

💧 Electrolyte Station 3 just before the park exit.

👟 Hit Oxford Street and boom—you’re at 15K!

Run Sydney Marathon

1️⃣2️⃣ 12 ~ 13 km
📍Entrance of Pitt St. -> 25 Martin Place

👉 Steady run before the left turn, maintain your rhythm and conserve energy for the later stages!
🏃‍♂️ Pace: Slight uphill, the road is straight, so focus on maintaining a steady pace.

🍹 Weekend shopping vibes—time to relax!

🛍️ At the 12K mark, we leave the Circular Quay area and turn south into a completely different scene—Sydney’s bustling Pitt Street commercial district. Known for its luxury hotels, boutique shops, and accessible fashion stores, the usual retail buzz is replaced by the cheers of enthusiastic spectators early in the morning.

After passing the second water station at 12.4K, we continue toward Martin Place. But hold on—we’re not sprinting into Pitt Street Mall for a shopping spree just yet. Instead, we turn left on King Street, heading toward the intersection with Castlereagh Street, passing the large MLC shopping complex as we hit the 13K mark.

Run Sydney Marathon

🔟 -1️⃣ 1️⃣ 10 ~ 12 km
📍Metro Barangaroo Station → Entrance of Pitt St
👉 Downhill into a flat stretch — time to reset your breathing and steady your rhythm!
🏃‍♂️ Pacing: Minimal elevation change here, but stay alert and adjust your pace based on the road conditions.
💧 No aid stations along this segment — take small sips of water if needed.

10K to 12K — A Twisty Sydney Detour

From 10K, the route gets tricky. You’ll loop through the scenic Walsh Bay area, pass under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, then follow George St for a steady 400m stretch before turning onto Alfred St beneath the Cahill Expressway.

This section feels like running through a paperclip — with constant turns in every direction, it’s hard to build speed.

Still, the views make it worth it: shifting angles of Sydney Harbour, colorful restaurant signs, moored boats, and just before 12K, the Museum of Contemporary Art.

🎯 10K Milestone Unlocked – Sydney Marathon 2025

🏃🏻‍♂️➡️ With the Sydney Marathon Strategy Map series hitting the 10K mark, I’ve also launched my own personal 12-week “Marathon 10K” training journey. This is training, after all — so it’s all about a #SlowStart.

📝 A quick look back at the first 10K of the Sydney Marathon:
We kicked off at #MillerStreet (elevation 90m), crossed the iconic #SydneyHarbourBridge, then descended into the 5K mark at #DarlingHarbour. Just before 6K, we hit the first official hydration point with water + electrolytes.

From there, we ran past a series of docks in #Pyrmont, curved up onto the overpass skimming Darling Harbour, entered the financial district‘s high-rise zone, and powered through High Street toward the 10K milestone near #MetroBarangarooStation.

☀️ Sydney’s weather in August and September is just perfect — especially with that crisp early start (6:00–6:30 am). No pressure though — the ever-changing terrain and stunning views will keep your spirits high.

Remember, this is just the beginning. Stay hydrated, mind the sun, and keep that energy steady.

See you at 11K! 👋😊
