Doing the 26 for 26 challenge with a twist because the 2 is missing lol. πŸ˜‚

With a job, business, and further studies, I don't think I will be able to read much so it's 6 books for me. 🫢
Crime and Punishment, The Count of Monte Cristo and Babel are loonnng books so they'll take a long time to finish! The other three are short so yay!

Last year I only read like 3-4 books and 1 of them was an audiobook that I listened to. Hopefully this year will be better. I've already read 100 pages of C&P so I feel like I will be able to read 6 books by the end of this year.

Q: How many books are you going to read? And which books are on your priority list? by @weebreader

Have you been feeling distant from your Deen lately?

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu. πŸŒ™

I know I have not been feeling the same connection as I did last year or the year before that. And it makes me sad every day when I don't feel the same connection with my Ψ±Ψ¨ and His Ω‚Ψ±Ψ§Ω“Ω†. This guilt is like nothing I have felt before and I genuinely really love that I feel the guilt. That I feel like I need to make my Rab, my Deen and my Quran my priority. It means my heart is still alive and some day I will Insha Allah Insha Allah be closer to Him even more than before.

It honestly feels like my prayers are being answered. That longing that is there in my heart to feel the same connection and the prayers I made for being closer to Him more than before, I feel as if those prayers are being answered because @fankaar_pk sent this journal my way when I needed it the most.
When I opened it, my heart felt a different kind of happiness. The cover is stunning and every single page has been designed with so much dedication. I started reading the beautiful Duas of my beloved prophets that are included in this journal and it felt amazing. I think sometimes just a little something maybe a video, a reminder, maybe something that you shared in the past or maybe a journal like this can help you take the first step that otherwise seemed so hard for you.

I honestly CANNOT wait to start Quran journaling. I want to bring so many changes in myself and reflect on Quran on an even deeper level than before.

These were all my raw feelings and thoughts. Leave yours as well if you can relate. I would love to hear them❀️.

Q. Have you ever done Quran journaling before? Let me know where to start? How to? And anything that could be beneficial for me. Jazakillahu khairan kaseera. by @weebreader

Posting after a year? Yesss.
Life was such a rollercoaster last yearβ€” a year full of joy and mental breakdowns.

Anyways, did you guys go anywhere for vacations this year? I did, for the first time ever Alhamdullilah and it was a wholesome experience.

Hoping to post random dumps and aesthetic layouts etc. from time to time. <3 by @weebreader

The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.

4/5 based on my enjoyment level.
5/5 for the book itself.

Whenever I read a translated version of any book, my first thought is 'I wish I could read it in the language it was actually written in'. I feel like so much is lost in translation. It's never the same in another language. *Sigh*

"𝙃𝙀𝙬 𝙖𝙗𝙀π™ͺ𝙩 π™žπ™› 𝙄 π™¨π™‘π™šπ™šπ™₯ 𝙖 π™‘π™žπ™©π™©π™‘π™š π™—π™žπ™© π™‘π™€π™£π™œπ™šπ™§ 𝙖𝙣𝙙 π™›π™€π™§π™œπ™šπ™© 𝙖𝙑𝙑 π™©π™π™žπ™¨ π™£π™€π™£π™¨π™šπ™£π™¨π™š."

Anyways, let's talk about the book. It's only around 70 pages long but it has a lot to offer. I didn't think this book would have such a profound impact on my brain but it did. It revolves around the themes of alienation, dehumanization, existential crisis, inevitability of death, search for meaning in an indifferent world, absurdity of life, lack of communication and understanding, lack of empathy and compassion, and family dynamics.

The book itself is absurd, the events that happen are absurd-er but what you take away from it is anything but absurd.

Kafka's narrative style was the most intriguing thing to me. How could the sentences be so devoid of emotions but still make me feel so much? I wanted to cry at times. And also the surreal mingling with the real was such a delight to read.

The novella also serves as a critique of capitalism; the way it pushes people to prefer work over their mental and physical well-being and attaches an individual's worth to wealth. Gregor is valued as long as he is able to earn money. However, as soon as he is incapable of doing that, he faces rejection, abandonment and is imprisoned in his "dark" room. He becomes a burden for his family; the family he cared so much for and placed above his own well-being.

The one thing this novella has taught me is to be more considerate and kind especially to my family members. Not everyone can express themselves or describe what they are going through. Instead of being indifferent to the sufferings of others, we should try to understand them and be there for them in times of difficulties. <3

Qotd: What was the last book that taught you something positive?

Animal Farm review + annotations. (My most highly annotated book now ✨)

"All animals are equal but some animals are MORE equal than others."

FIVE SCINTILLATING STARS. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
(I don't even remember the last time I gave 5 stars to a book without a second thought.)

I honestly don't think my review will do this book justice. You guys should read the book itself 😭.

Animal Farm is an allegorical representation of the Russian Revolution leading up to Stalin's regime. George Orwell is famous for criticizing totalitarian regimes so, he aptly portrayed the manipulation through different means and propaganda, the violence, the forced confessions from individuals who rebelled- or thought of rebelling ( using 'thought' here was intentional, you'd know when you read the book 🫒) , having strict check and balance over the masses and getting them eliminated as easily as one swats a fly, no freedom of speech whatsoever and much more that was there in Stalin's era and is there in all other totalitarian regimes as well (humara konsa khuch different hay issey?).

"When Animal Farm was first published, Stalinist Russia was seen as its target. Today it is devastatingly clear that wherever and whenever freedom is attacked, under whatever banner, the cutting clarity and savage comedy of George Orwell’s masterpiece have a meaning and message still ferociously fresh." - Goodreads

The most wonderful thing about this book is that it is a novella of only around 140 pages!! The shortness of the book doesn't take away anything from it but rather makes it even more appealing. There's so much to unpack. So many layers of meanings to decode. But that's not all! There's satire, humour and irony that makes it even more interesting. I'm honestly in love with the way Orwell has employed irony in the book. It made me laugh despite the seriousness of the book itself.

To be very honest, this book is probably one of the best books I've ever read. It's so thought-provoking and eye-opening. You will never be able to see things the same way you do now after reading it. When I finished the book, it felt like a lightning bolt had struck me. I sat there feeling all the different (continued -) by @weebreader

Jane Eyre review+ annotations πŸŽ€

4.5/5 ⭐

"I care for myself. The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself."

I read this review on Goodreads which stated that 'Jane Eyre is a quintessential Victorian novel. It literally has everything that was typical of the period, but, unlike other novels, it has all the elements in one story.' and I can definitely vouch for that. It's a wonder how Charlotte Bronte fit in all the features of Victorian era within one book!

Basically, Victorian era is marked for industrialization which led to class distinction dividing the people into two classes; the owners and the workers. When you peruse Jane Eyre, you get to see that there's an immense emphasis on class distinction and poverty. Jane Eyre, our protagonist, herself is an orphan who is dependent on her aunt and is constantly reminded of the fact that she belongs to an inferior background. She's often called a "beggar" in the novel. I see Jane Eyre, at its core, as a poignant and bitter critique of capitalism. Throughout the novel, Charlotte Bronte emphasizes on the disastrous effects of Capitalism; the sufferings of the under-privileged, the alienation and estrangement they feel, women being seen as a mere commodity, and the foundations of relationships being based on fortune and wealth rather than love and mutual understanding.

"No one would take me for love; and I will not be regarded in the light of a mere money speculation." -Jane

The romance, in the book, itself shows a master-slave dynamics. Jane Eyre is constantly trying to battle with the domineering master, Edward Rochester. I loved seeing their relationship through Hegel's master-slave dialecticism. In a Capitalist environment, the labours try to assert their identity and strive for their recognition by the owner which is exactly what we come across in Jane Eyre's relationship with Edward Rochester.

Charlotte Bronte continuously tries to instigate the idea of equality whether that's between a master and a slave or a woman and a man.

Continued in comments.... Should I share more annotations in another post? πŸ‘€ by @weebreader

March Wrap up+ April hopefuls. πŸŽ€

I love posting wrap ups of months sm!!! Just saw @fanaticreader_'s wrap up post and I realized that I haven't posted mine.

I'm at that stage in my life when I can no longer read 8-10 months a month but am I sad about it? Nopeee.
Also didn't get to read much in March because of Ramzan and exams.

Anyways, here's the little wrap up:

Thorn by Intisar Khanani:

3/5 ⭐. I have already posted a review of it.

Arms and the Man (play) by Bernand Shaw:

5/5 ⭐. Absolutely loved it. Bernand Shaw might honestly become my favorite playwright soon. The way he not only makes me laugh like crazy but also makes me ruminate over so many things is simply splendid. I had such a wonderful time reading this play and I stayed up late at night! That hasn't happened in so long. Definitely recommend this one.

These were the only books I read in March. I read a few poems this month and I'm proud of myself for that.

Here are some recs if you love reading poetry:

β€’Much madness is the divinest sense by Emily Dickinson.

β€’A Poison Tree and The Sick Rose by William Blake.

β€’Out Out by Robert Frost.

β€’Ode to Grecian urn and Ode to Nightingale by John Keats.

β€’The Rime of Ancient Mariner by S.T Coleridge.

β€’Musée des Beaux Art by W. H. Auden.

β€’The Thought-Fox by Ted Hughes.

I absolutely adore these poems. Can't wait to read more now. πŸ’ž

- Here are some books I plan to read in April. Although, I am not sure I will be able to finish so many but I will definitely tryyy.

-Jane Eyre (buddy read) by Charlotte Bronte. I have been so desperate to read this one.
-Sparkling Cyanide by Agatha Christie because... obviously?
-A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen. I love reading plays now so yes!!
-The Theft of Sunlight. I want to continue The Dauntless Path series. I had a hard time finishing Thorn but I hope this one will be better!
-A study in Scarlet (Sherlock Holmes). I finally decided to get to Sherlock Holmes. I have watched this episode in the Sherlock Holmes series but that was LONGGG ago and I don't remember anything now so yay super excited for it.

Journal spread (after sooo longgg ) + positive affirmations. 🌷

I'm in my creative phase! I loved making a few journal spreads after such a long time. The stickers used in this one are from @emaspaperco . You can get good quality stickers in really low prices!!

I thought I should make one for the last ashra for all of us. Here are some goals we can try to do. Let's strive for Laylat-ul- Qadr with our utmost efforts. We strive so hard to achieve our worldly goals so now it's time to try for that one that will benefit us even after this life!

BUT

Let's not be upset if we aren't able to do as much as we planned. I always feel a little disappointed in me for not being able to do more than I planned but then I reflect on my past; I think of all the things I have done differently this Ramazan and it makes me feel so much better. No one can become a perfect person within a few days, weeks, months or even years. The journey to get closer to Allah is a long one. It's a journey of a lifetime. You keep trying. You keep getting better. You take one step at a time. You TRY. That's all Allah asks of us; to try, to be mindful of Him, to fear Him. We can never be perfect but we can be better than what we were. This Ramazan do one thing that you didn't do before. Leave one sin for Allah and be firm and resolute about it. Don't bring it back into your life after Ramazan is over. If it happens sometimes, you repent but you don't stop trying. 🌷

I needed this caption just as much as someone else might have needed it. Let's do our best these last few days and say goodbye to this Ramazan with a lot of ibadat, changes, and positive vibes before it leaves. Insha Allah. by @weebreader

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu πŸŒ·πŸŒ™

Qotd: How's your Ramazan going?

I felt like posting today but I have no caption sooo let's do the #whatthisweek tag.

What have I been reading this week?

Honestly only Quran these days. I had to finish Poe's short story too but I just don't find the time and energy to read these days? I have also not been able to read that book I mentioned in my last post about Prophet Muhammad's ( ο·Ί )
Seerat. πŸ₯²

What have I been listening to this week?

I have been listening to podcasts and bayaan (do we have an English word for these?). I have shared a few in my stories and also added them in my highlights in case you guys would want to listen to these. 🌷

What have I been watching?

Haven't been watching anything other than these podcasts either. Alhamdullilah I love these and I am learning a lot from these as well!

This week has been amazing so far Alhamdullilah. Honestly one of my best Ramazans. I am learning a lot of new things and I am doing a whole lot better than the past Ramazans so like what's more satisfying than seeing your improvement over the years?

The only problem I have is my sleep schedule? It's so messed up. 🫠 But one positive thing that I am hoping will come out of this is thatttt I will sleep less even after Ramazan. And will hopefully get more time to do all the important things.

Also I have exams from Friday and I hate it. I hate exams in Ramazan. Do pray for me. Not just for exams but for maghfirat, health, success in this world and the next world, and to gain more knowledge. 🌷🫢 JazakAllahu Khairan Kaseera. by @weebreader
