Join me @pot_studio_la this Thursday from 7-9pm to learn Tatreez: Palestinian embroidery!

In December, I’ll also be teaching Tahriri, which is another type of Palestinian stitch, and is a level 2 class, which means you will need to have practiced tatreez before joining!

I’ve shared this story before, but my Teta was a seamstress and pattern maker. After fleeing Palestine in 48, the family settled in Beruit, and Tete went to school for sewing. She designed and sewed clothing for the women of Beruit and she continued this career when they immigrated to America. Sewing was passed down from my Tete to my mom to me. Growing up, I watched my mom make me clothes and pajamas and sew all my best Halloween costumes, until I could start making my own. In the last couple of years, I’ve started sewing more and seriously, working my way through patterns by small creators. I’m growing more confident in my sewing skills and maybe I’ll design my own patterns one day.

I finally made the #skylinedress by @hisydgraham. I bought the pattern last summer and for one reason or another put it off until this spring. I have always learned best by watching other people doing, and I really appreciate Sydney’s video tutorials to follow along with the pattern instructions.

Photos from a recent Tatreez workshop at @midnightbooksla. Thank you for continuing to show up to learn about Palestinian culture and supporting Palestinians in Gaza. (Thanks @joshbarberphoto who was recently promoted from photographer to photographer and instructor!)

More war, destruction and lives are being taken in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran…all at the hands of the US and Israel.

Palestinians still need your consistent effort. Over time, consistency makes great impact on real people. What is something substantial that you can do to directly affect people who need help?

If you are still looking for ways to make change, join @creatorsforgaza. Palestinians are asking for monetary relief. Think about what skills you have to utilize for fundraising and leverage them to support Palestinians in Gaza. by @weekendthreads_
