Tim Cook stepped down as Apple’s CEO today, ending a run that began in August 2011 when he took over from Steve Jobs. Apple was worth about 350 billion dollars back then. It closes his tenure valued at roughly 4.6 trillion dollars.

That works out to more than 4.3 trillion dollars added to Apple’s market value over 15 years, spanning milestones like the first trillion dollar valuation in 2018 and a brief peak above 5 trillion this past July. John Ternus, Apple’s hardware chief, becomes CEO tomorrow.

Cook is staying on as executive chairman rather than leaving the company entirely.

What do you think defined Cook’s run at Apple more, the products or the growth?

Tucker Carlson filmed himself shopping at a grocery store in Moscow in February 2024, filling a cart with bread, coffee, cheese, wine, and familiar Western brands like Snickers and Twix. He said the crew picked items a family of four would eat in a week, without checking prices first.

Before checkout, Carlson and his crew guessed the total would run around $400, close to what a similar cart might cost in the US. The actual total came to roughly $104. Carlson said the gap left him “legitimately angry” about prices back home.

The clip is from February 2024 and has recently recirculated online as if new.

Would $104 cover a week of groceries for you right now?

The US national debt is on track to cross 40 trillion dollars this week, according to the Washington Post. Forecasters had not expected the milestone this soon. Lost tariff revenue after a court ruling invalidated some tariffs is part of the reason borrowing accelerated.

Net interest payments on the debt have already passed 1 trillion dollars a year, according to Treasury data. That is more than the government spends on national defense.

Does a number this size change how you think about government spending?

In his April 2022 interview with Mathias Döpfner, Elon Musk clarified that people often confuse money with the economy itself. He described money as a database for exchanging goods and services or time-shifting those exchanges, without inherent power. Using the shipwreck example, Musk noted a trillion dollars or all the Bitcoin would be useless compared to a can of soup. The actual economy consists of tangible goods and services produced by labor. The clip, shared by MarsUniversityX in October 2026, recirculates amid ongoing debates on finance and crypto.

How does viewing money purely as a database change approaches to wealth and scarcity?

On a late-night talk show Prince walked through the math on a large multi-album contract, showing how high upfront payments can still leave an artist with limited ongoing income once the label owns the masters.

He died in April 2016 without a will. A bank administered the estate and initially valued it at $82.3 million. The IRS placed the value at $163.2 million, driven mainly by music rights and other hard-to-price assets.

After years of filings, appraisals, and fees paid to lawyers and consultants, the sides settled in 2022 at $156.4 million. Two of his six sibling heirs had died during the process. Federal estate tax applied at 40 percent above the exemption, with Minnesota adding its own layer.

The case shows how even someone who understood contracts in detail can leave a complex, costly situation for family when no will or trust exists.

How much of an estate’s value can legal and tax costs consume when there is no plan?

Quinton Rampage Jackson described earning about 7 million dollars from his 2007 UFC title fight against Chuck Liddell. The amount came largely from pay-per-view points in a contract he held with the World Fighting Alliance. When the UFC acquired that promotion, it inherited and honored the existing deal.

Jackson has recounted the story on multiple occasions, including during a conversation with Sean Strickland. The former light heavyweight champion said the promotion later adjusted terms after the payout became clear. Strickland reacted with visible surprise at the size of a single-fight figure from that era.

The exchange highlights differences between early-2000s contract structures that sometimes included large PPV percentages and the standardized purses more common in the modern UFC. Jackson has stated the Liddell fight remained his highest single payday.

Did one large past payday change how you view current fighter contracts?

Nvidia was a small graphics chip startup in the late 1990s looking for a manufacturer. Jensen Huang found TSMC’s U.S. office number in the Yellow Pages and left several voicemails. No one called back.

He then wrote a letter directly to founder Morris Chang. After a long silence, Chang phoned one evening. Huang was in the office while colleagues played video games nearby. He told them to quiet down because Morris Chang was on the line.

Chang invited Huang to Taiwan. The visit led to a manufacturing relationship that has lasted decades. Huang has described the moment as the start of more than just one company partnership.

How far would you go to reach a potential partner if the first few calls went unanswered?

A Kevin Bacon’s interview clip about losing an estimated $30–40 million to Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme alongside his wife Kyra Sedgwick. Bacon said they looked at each other and simply acknowledged it sucked, then rolled up their sleeves and got back to work. Their kids were healthy and in school, and both could still earn income.

He noted many others, especially retirees, were devastated far more. The couple recovered a portion of funds but recognized much of it was never real—just numbers on paper. Bacon emphasized they had each other and refused to panic or fight over it.

What matters more after a major loss: the vanished capital or your capacity to rebuild it?

Emma Camp reported that thousands of NYC rent-stabilized apartments sit vacant because laws cap rents too low for landlords to recover major repair costs after long-term tenants leave. Units often need full renovations including new plumbing, wiring, and lead abatement, but stabilized rates make investment unprofitable for decades. The 2019 tenant protection law eliminated big vacancy increases that once allowed cost recovery. This reduces overall housing supply despite high demand. The attached video shows examples of rundown empty units in otherwise maintained buildings.

How might adjusting vacancy rent rules affect both tenants and housing availability?

Elon Musk described government money sent to so-called nonprofits as a major loophole during a March 2025 podcast interview. He said the groups can pay themselves high salaries, expense personal items, and buy jets and homes with limited later checks. Musk linked this to work through the Department of Government Efficiency looking at federal spending. The comments focused on the lack of ongoing audits once funds leave the government. He noted the pattern appears at scale across multiple organizations. The remarks came while discussing broader efforts to track where taxpayer money ends up after it is awarded.

How much oversight do you expect once federal money reaches a nonprofit?

Elon Musk outlined a long-term vision for X during a 2023 interview with podcaster Zuby. He explained that the platform could evolve into the most efficient database for money, handling real-time transactions with minimal fraud. Over time, this could cover a large share of global financial activity, potentially half, though he noted the exact figure was uncertain. Musk stressed that X would not operate like a traditional bank with branches or batch processing. Instead, it would serve as a single, seamless location for any activity involving money. The comments came as part of a broader discussion on turning Twitter into an everything app after its rebrand. This framing has circulated again amid later developments around X Money features. How does a single platform handling that much financial activity change the role of existing banks?
