हमारे यहाँ “घर जमाई” शब्द कई बार मज़ाक या ताने की तरह सुनाई देता है।

लेकिन लद्दाख में मुझे इसका एक बिल्कुल अलग पहलू देखने और समझने को मिला।

जहाँ किसी परिवार में बेटा नहीं है, वहाँ कुछ परिवारों में दामाद उस घर का हिस्सा बनकर उसकी ज़िम्मेदारियाँ निभाता है, और इस व्यवस्था को सम्मान के साथ स्वीकार किया जाता है।

मुझे सबसे खूबसूरत बात ये लगी कि जिस सवाल का जवाब हम अक्सर “बेटा तो होना ही चाहिए, वंश कौन चलाएगा?” में ढूँढते हैं, वहाँ उसका एक अधिक मानवीय और व्यावहारिक जवाब देखने को मिलता है।

एक परिवार अपनी बेटी को उसके माता-पिता के साथ रहने देता है, और दूसरा अपने बेटे को विदा करने के लिए तैयार होता है।

शायद सवाल सिर्फ़ ये नहीं होना चाहिए कि वंश कौन चलाएगा?
सवाल ये भी हो सकता है, परिवार का साथ कौन निभाएगा?

लद्दाख की इस परंपरा ने मुझे सोचने पर मजबूर किया।
आपको इसमें क्या दिखाई देता है, परंपरा, समानता या एक practical social solution?
