As a victim, I felt that nobody would believe or help me until I made an attempt on my life. As a survivor, after finding the courage to seek help and make a police report when my life was threatened that fear became a reality.

The Depp v. Heard case carried a huge weight on how future male survivors would attempt to seek help in repairing not just their reputation but their lives as well. Like many, I sat at the edge of my seat listening to both sides and the evidence provided, hoping that the jury would make the right decision. Thankfully, in my opinion, they did. Mr. Depp provided recordings, eyewitnesses to reveal his truth and I cannot express the relief I felt upon seeing the results. This post isn’t to bash Heard supporters so I ask that respect is kept on both sides. That being said, Ms. Heard’s time on the stand revealed that their are women who can manipulate the system in order to destroy the reputation of others.

Ultimately, I would encourage all survivors, particularly male, to take the fact that there is HOPE now. This case has become a major leap in the progression of listening to male survivors and victims alike. While those whose reputations were ruined, with this case there is a chance you can seek legal help. We cannot allow these manipulators (woman, man, non-binary, etc.) to utilize the system against us.

Once again, I’m not bashing Heard supporters, I’m also not stating that Mr. Depp is a perfect man. BOTH sides show that both can benefit from seeking therapy and only the two of them know the FULL truth.

I do stand with Mr. Depp and I hope he is able to regain the reputation he has lost as well as seek mental health assistance.
I encourage a respectful exchange between both sides as well as survivors seeking legal counsel should it be needed.

Mr. Depp told the world and the world listen. I believe it’s time we do the same for other men.

The Dark Side of Caribbean Culture:

I want to repeat. I AM NOT TRYING TO INSULT OR BELITTLE ANYONES CULTURE.
But we gotta chat about how some aspects of our Caribbean culture has harmed the mentality and emotional stability of our young boys.
We’re taught to keep whatever mental or emotional issues to ourselves which encouraged us to figure out how to heal on our own, often times we unintentionally make things worse. Either through violence, drugs or alcohol among other self-destructive habits.
We’re ready to get angry at a man for doing things we expect him not to do but I feel that we tend to ignore how his own village brought him up. I’m not saying it’s anyone else’s job to raise your child but as other adults with or without children we should make efforts to ensure the kids are safe and not encourage anything we would discourage if the roles were reversed.

Maintain the same protective energy we have for our young girls and spread that to our young boys because I do not want the next generation of children to feel like they can’t express themselves or that it’s acceptable to be sexualized by adults men or women.
I am hoping that our next generation of adult men will have an understanding of how to express themselves or how to protect their mentality.

I’m glad some people are making efforts to assist the culture in changing, I’m hoping this video will be among the others that encourage more people to want to help.

Remember;
We Will Grow
We Will Change
We Will Heal

We Gotta Chat about:
CPTSD and Racial Trauma

No video today but this is an extremely important topic. People of color undergo severe stressors throughout their lives, while those stressor may vary from person to person the knowledge of being viewed/judged by the color of our skin still stands amongst them. Racism continues to plague society today and these past few years have allowed it to live in the light. We see African-American men and women on the news either being harmed/killed by police or having their abilities to perform their jobs (ridiculously) questioned in ways that are set to trap us within stereotypical views. Recently, I witnessed racial comments when I was out with my family. We saw a Black family sailing a large boat and enjoying life but I heard someone yell out "They must be dealing drugs" with no hesitation or shame, or care for those around who heard it. Instinctively, I turned around but the face was lost in a crowd of people who just laughed it off like it wasn't a big deal.

Well, to me it is. Because I'm tired of being viewed as a drug dealer or gangster, I'm tired of seeing other people of color finding success and having to hear ignorant comments on how they attained it. We're allowed to be great. We ARE great.

Our fears are not jokes, our success is well earned, our abilities are real, and our mental health is important.

I'll be sharing resources soon.
Remember;
We will Grow
We will Change
We will Heal

And we will remain Kings and Queens.

I’m Not Afraid to Show Emotions:

So last video, I definitely was not myself. As I said, I was going through a depressive episode and that’s how I look and speak when going through it. I did put serious thought into removing the video but I came to the conclusion that not everyone has an understanding of how depression can look in some people. Emphasis on SOME as there are a variety of ways depression can take in others. My hope is that the video can provide some idea of what to look out for when talking to friends, families, or lovers.
Depression happens all over the place and I, personally, am not afraid to express when I’m going through an episode or if I’m feeling any other type of emotion. In the past I hated feeling feelings, I eventually, like other men, learned how to be numb to emotions but as I got older I realized that it wasn’t fair to me nor was it healthy. Im human, we are human emotions come with the territory. If you are feeling a type of way don’t lock it up, please express yourself! Especially if someone MADE you feel that way be it positive or negative.
Thankfully, it’s becoming more and more acceptable for emotions to be shown and while we have some people with certain views that continue to say “oh you’re just being dramatic” or “just be a man and suck it up”, etc. etc. toss em out ya door. You don’t need that kind of energy in your life.
Surround yourself with people who are willing to listen and understand (or at least try to) what you’re feeling.

Remember;
We Will Grow
We Will Change
We Will Heal

You Keep Tellin’ Me Not To Give Em Power…

But it’s not about that..

Telling a survivor to not “allow” their abuser to keep power over them can get annoying after a while, and almost disrespectful in my opinion, especially after going through a personal healing process. Because it’s not about the abuser having power, the perception of relationships have now permanently changed for some.

For a survivor, going back out into the dating world can be a nerve wracking and frustrating experience. Because we want to experience healthy love and have trust in our partners. However, because of the damages that was done we may have a tendency to look over our shoulder for danger or simply wait for the other shoe to drop, others might feel a desire to escape the relationship before any damage before it even happens, or in other words we sabotage the relationship.

I’m not saying that every survivor goes through this mindset, but I strongly suggest we keep this information in mind.

A person doesn’t always look as they appear. Someone can always present what they want others to see but on the inside, that person could feel scared, confused, alone, etc.

Being vulnerable, intimate, or trusting takes practice and a lot of it. So please, if you are dating a survivor, please extend grace or continue extending grace.

For my fellow survivors, yes we do deserve to experience healthy love. The past is something we cannot change but we are in control of our present. Continue your healing, practice trust building with others, practice vulnerability when you get to that stage. Practice trusting ourselves when it comes to dating again.

Have a safe weekend and remember;
We Can Grow
We Can Change
We Can Heal

Parent Trauma and how it Effects Current and Future Parents:

Have you ever thought that you’d be a bad parent because of how you were raised? Have you ever lacked the confidence in yourself to raise a child because you’re scared of repeating the cycle?

You are not alone in this. A lot of the current generation refuse to have kids, while this can be mostly because of financial, medical and housing stressors, I feel there is a mental aspect to this as well. Our parents, in a roundabout way, teach us how to parent. As we grow we remember how we were treated and might try to mimic those actions if we believe them to be healthy. However, what about those in toxic homes? Where our confidence and self-value was crushed? Hopefully we are able to rebuild from that individually but the idea of repeating that cycle to our kids is frightening!

There is no “perfect” family and there is no exact manual on how to parent. It’s important we take the time to work on ourselves and recognize when we are in the wrong. We also need to be prepared to cut off any toxic family member or friend because the last thing we need is for someone to bring harm to your or your kids mental and emotional state.
The balancing act is HARD, like juggling with two arms and a leg hard, but we have to try and do it in the best and healthiest way we can.
Don’t go into parenting trying to be “perfect” or like that celebrity family. Go into parenting trying to be a good parent with happy kids. I believe in you.

Remember;
We Can Grow
We Can Change
We Can Heal

Generational Trauma: Parent Issues

Being the child of an toxic parent comes with a lot of scars. As kids we want to impress our parents and get that “Atta boy/girl” cheer and pat on the head. Unfortunately, some parents minimize our success, they make us feel like we will never be enough no matter how much we do. What’s worse? We can pass that down to our kids, especially if we grew up thinking it was normal.

Outside of the physical damage, I believe the emotional is the worst kind of experience because while the body can heal it’s the mind that takes the longest to repair. I say that because it can be easy to ignore for a lot of people, the mindset of “It’s no big deal” or “it’s just the family thing” can really encourage people to accept these painful experiences.

It can also, in my opinion, cause people to ignore their definition of success and focus on the parents definition. The amount of pressure to meet the constantly changing expectations of toxic parents is tiring and can effect how we raise our kids.
However, the cycle can be broken. It will take hard work but it can happen.

We are not our parents. We create our own definition of success. We can choose to break this cycle and create a healthier one for our family and future generations.
It just starts with us accepting the fact that:

We Can Grow
We Can Change
We Can Heal
