I (Faith) did a sharing at Kuantan about my lighting design work in the theatre and also on 微 Wei Collective's work over these years. Many thanks to Pey Sien for the invitation.

Really happy to share the stage with Nisha who is a passionate environmentalist with lots of ideas to engage communities to think about the world we live in. Space Makes Me, I Make Space.
空間造人，人造空間

How being in a natural space and we ourselves also being made from nature can receive rhythms from the outside and re-create them on the inside in a highly controlled space like the theatre.

Considering the architecture of a built/natural space, how do we consider the breath of the space and design things with intention for both sides to win-win.

I did what I could but there is also much room for improvement. Happy to have an audience and for me to work on it the next time and to share more intimate details on creating worlds in spaces :)

For many years I try to define what Wei Collective is about, truth is, we don't have a very clearly defined type of theatre we do. We create experiences (Mamak shop for the burnout Millenial, Anew 再), sometimes theatre (Being 息在), sometimes installation, sometimes just sometimes. As long as we don't stop creating.

I have come to accept we are a group that if you blink you miss. But one philosophy that I hold closely in my own work and my collective's work is to seek for breath and breathing spaces.

No breath, no life, no space, no nothing.

Much love to @sayangsuhaili and @vanessavtoh , creating and shaping our experience. And to all of you who joined! Such openness and graciousness. Every iteration of “Chance Upon” is unrepeatable. Come play with @ruishannnn on 10th December. We have no idea what’s gonna happen. And that’s absolutely wonderful.

“Chance Upon” is an experiment on chance and synchronicity. It’s a musing on my artistic approach: how to empower performers; how to watch without desire. It’s also a meditation on life: how random events shape us into who we are; how we can learn to embrace chance so that we can appreciate life (and love) better. by @weicollective

Chance Upon

Pulling together an experiment, a gathering of people requires resources.

-brains n heart to think of concept/execution
-money and connections to get the space and people

Doing so much to communicate what is within, that is waiting to be heard.

Choosing the communication method we want to do, which is theatre.

They pick a dice and roll

There are no rehearsals, no director
The performer(s) and the audience encounter the story at the same moment

Through a series of letters from one unknown person to another
With an assortment of seemingly random tasks

“Chance Upon” evokes “chance” as a dramaturg

You are invited to take part in the dance of randomness and determinism in life and love
