The end of an era. The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm has been a source of inspiration to many, pride for our community and of course culinary excellence for nearly 30 years. I remember first visiting as a child to deliver my mom’s artwork. A couple of decades later, I drove up the notoriously steep driveway to begin my own creative chapter there. The magic I experienced and friendships I built during those years shaped who I am as a chef and human today. Being asked by @weightoftheblade to craft a cake for the team to enjoy on their final weekend of service was not only an honor, it felt right. Thank you Beverly for cultivating a uniquely special place for so many talented individuals to come together and grow over the years. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and chatting with @turtle_scratch while skating the @wrv1967_vabeach skatepark yesterday 6/3/2025 with my dear @deannapineda, and we had the privilege of witnessing Turtle deliver a spoken word piece off the cuff!! This gentleman hosts The Unstoppable Words Podcast as well as slam poetry/spoken word events around Virginia Beach. I will be sure to be tuning in because this was such a broadsided slam and a reminder that art is around every corner, just waiting to be engaged with. This aughtta be fun. 6~ish years ago, skating at Lake Fairfax with @hemi_gintricks I slipped out and landed pretty violently in the splits, and I thought I had merely tapped my knee on the ground so I kept skating for another hour or so. A week later, I torqued it at work and have been rehabbing and taking it easy ever since. I felt something weird happen while working out in early July, and a brand new little bump showed up on the top of my Tibia, and certain angles of leverage make me very aware of its tenderness now. The orthopedic bone/muscle specialist I saw recently bent my leg around and asked if there was pain, which there wasn’t. He prescribed physical therapy, even with me insisting that it’s not likely something that can be repaired by rehab, because I’ve been doing exactly that for six years and this thing called it quits while I was doing very mild calisthenics. I had a feeling that his knee slapping and general disinterest and lack of questions would require further investigation. I asked him to give me an MRI order, and he insisted that it wouldn’t likely be necessary and that PT would be able to say for certain. He never had me walk to check for rotation or ankle stability, and that’s a red flag for me as far as physio and stability checks are concerned. So I had to go back to my PcP and request an MRI order, which she warned my insurance may not approve because the ortho guy didn’t call for it. Anyways, they approved it, I got it done AND: “Complex tear of the middle and posterior thirds of the medial meniscus. Degenerative cysts and marrow edema are visible in the posterior medial tibial plateau. There is mild quadriceps tendinopathy and enthesopathy with adjacent edema in the suprapatellar fat.“ Long story short: advocate for yourself.
