Done the modification of Night Lords’ Prince of Crows. Now just waiting for the Primarch to arrive 👀

Besides adding the cloth cloak, loincloth, and chains for Savetar, I fixed the shoulder armor, which was installed in the wrong direction, and removed and reattached the chest armor. I also corrected the color of the skull above the right shoulder, which was painted incorrectly, and changed the belt to brown, which feels more appropriate.

I originally considered changing the hand to red to match the novel’s description, but since the paint would probably get scratched off easily during handling, I decided to leave it as is 😅

Night Lords Tartaros Terminator Praetor gets a little accessory upgrade and modification, finally giving him the presence he deserves 👀

Although Joy Toy Factory was rather lazy when it came to painting the armor, some of the smaller details were painted reasonably well.

Putting the paint job aside, thanks to the overall design of the miniature, it’s actually not that bad. It has all the details you’d expect, but that tiny loincloth between the legs, combined with thighs that are far too skinny compared to the upper body, was honestly impossible to look at.

I swapped it out for a much larger loincloth and added the cloak. It’s a small change, but it helps clean up the overall silhouette quite a bit.

I also redid the washes and highlights across the whole model and repainted the head sculpt. I didn’t completely repaint it to fully restore the proper Night Lords armor colors, but it already looks much more pleasing to me.

As for the original helmet design, I personally felt it didn’t really fit the Night Lords aesthetic at all. Swapping it for a Sergeant helmet feels much more appropriate 👀

The Black Templars Castellan has also been upgraded to 4.0. Now just waiting for the Ancient and Chaplain to arrive 👀

A lot of people have been DMing me lately asking how I modified this latest batch of older figures. I’ve actually answered this quite a few times already: I simply replaced the legs with the printed models extended legs and paired with 3.0 joints 😅.

For anyone interested in upgrading a 2.0/3.0 body with taller legs, though, there’s one thing to keep in mind: make sure the character’s chest width and chest armor are suitable for the modification. Otherwise, if you only swap out the legs without the proportions of the upper body keeping up, the overall figure can end up looking pretty strange.

Just sharing this as a reference for everyone 👀

A small upgrade for my custom Captain Titus 👀

Huge thanks to Yu Feng for creating the Ultramarines Iron Halo, and to @maxbird986 from Forge Knight for developing the fur cloak. They both help bring Titus much closer to his original in-game appearance.

Unfortunately, this version of the cloak from Forge Knight is a bit too short. It has the same issue as their Honor Guard cloak—any design that needs to wrap around the front of the shoulder pads ends up looking undersized. In the end, I had to combine it with a longer cloak from another kit and do some extra customization myself.

Hopefully, we’ll see an updated version from Forge Knight in the future. 🥲

Snapped a few photos of my upgraded Primaris Chaplain after the makeover. 👀

I’ve been buying fewer figures lately, so I’ve started going back and fixing some of my older projects that always felt a little unfinished. ☹️

I also noticed that Joy Toy has been quietly making their newer Warhammer 40K figures a bit taller. Maybe there’s finally hope for the return of the 4.0 body proportions? 👀

Calgar’s new Stretcher Squad Captain Kaius Konorius in Joy Toy’s 4.0 body 👀

“It is I, Kaius Konorius!”

This is actually a custom project I finished nearly a year ago. Like my Malum Caedo, it started life on a 2.0 body and went through countless revisions before finally reaching the 4.0 Honor Guard body with relic-bearing upgrades, becoming the version I’m happiest with.

The original idea was simple: what if I gathered all of my favorite decorative details onto a single figure? To stay true to the visual language of Warhammer 40,000, I studied plenty of concept art from talented artists overseas. Unfortunately, custom upgrade parts were extremely hard to find in my local at the time, and my painting skills were still fairly limited. As a result, I relied almost entirely on JoyToy’s original parts, kitbashing them into something new.

Thankfully, the design work from the art team of Space Marine2 gave me plenty of inspiration. Even without print models parts, I was still able to create what feels like an elite hero unit simply by combining and modifying Joy Toy’s own pieces.

What surprised me most is that Games Workshop eventually introduced an official character that matches this look remarkably well. Now I’m left wondering… what’s the actual difference between the Chapter Champion they released a while back and this newly introduced Kaius in terms of their battlefield role? 🤔

The proper use of the Raven Lord headsculpt (X)

It’s a shame that when Sanguinius was released, Joy Toy went with a curly-haired head sculpt instead of the flowing hair seen on the reference miniature. Ever since the Raven Lord was announced, I’d been thinking about repainting his head and using it on Sanguinius instead. 👀

Reality, however, had other plans. I overlooked Joy Toy’s mysterious scaling inconsistencies between characters. I got so excited that I repainted the head before doing a test fit. ☹️

As it turns out, the Raven Lord’s head is slightly larger than Sanguinius’s, and the neck is noticeably longer as well. On top of that, Sanguinius’s neck opening is surprisingly narrow, so I had to shave off a large portion of the neck just to make it fit without looking too awkward.

So if you’re thinking about doing the same conversion, keep this in mind before you start. 🥲

Using a 3D-printed head and parts based on the Space Marine 2 game design, I rebuilt Joy Toy’s Blood Angels Captain into the Blood Angels Champion seen in the game.

The original miniature’s design was honestly quite plain, but the game’s art team did an excellent job redesigning it with a lot more detail. In a way, it helped redeem the Blood Angels after the increasingly simplified designs coming from Games Workshop. Otherwise, they were starting to feel like Ultramarines painted red. 😞

Unfortunately, Joy Toy made this entire wave of new Blood Angels using their shorter 3.5 body frame. If they had kept the taller 4.0 proportions instead, I believe the Joy Toy Blood Angels line wouldn’t have become as unpopular as it is today. 🥲

Every time one veteran gets an upgrade, a rookie has to make the ultimate sacrifice. 👀

I kitbashed a Joy Toy Primaris Blood Angels Terminator Ancient by combining parts from the classic firstborn model with the 10th Edition Terminator.

The proportions of the older miniatures weren’t great, but their ornate details and unique Chapter identity absolutely put today’s designs to shame. Modern releases often feel like they’re just AI-generated copy-and-paste jobs.

Then again, maybe they really are using AI now. Just look at that official promotional artwork with a human sporting six fingers—it says a lot about how lazy GW’s design process has become. 🙄
