Well I think I’ve found my new favourite thing to make 🐶… I love when I can combine my two loves: art and four-legged friends!! Any chance I get to use my beautiful neice @minnie_the_boxer as a model, I will. Her colouring has made her the perfect prototype for my custom pet mug!

As much as I may dislike the concept of New Years Resolutions, one of my goals for this year will definitely be to spend more time on the wheel and making things outside of my comfort zone. What are your aspirations/goals for 2024?

✨GET TO KNOW ME✨

👷🏼‍♀️I’m Becca from Ontario, Canada! I’m a part time potter/painter but a full time creative. I work weekdays as an environmental engineer designing storm ponds!

🎓I completed my undergrad at the University of Guelph. The GTA is my home but Guelph has my heart💛

🎨I started taking drawing and painting classes at my local studio when I was 6 and would often get in trouble in class for drawing instead of paying attention. I did hand-building with clay when I was young but didn’t start on the wheel until a year ago.

🤙🏼I’m a leftie. I figure if you’re not someone who would have been labelled a witch and burned at the stake 400 years ago then are you really living??

🍄Huge advocate for taking responsibility for your own mental health. Taking medication in conjunction with therapy is a privilege I am incredibly thankful for.

🐾My dog, Harper is my whole world and I am totally unapologetic about how strange and funny I have raised him to be.

🎧I love podcasts! @ologies, anyone?

📚I’m a huge non-fiction reader. However, I do enjoy occasional thrillers and fantasy. I’m always accepting recs and looking for more book-loving pals.

🏕When I’m not working or reading, I’m spending my free time ‘splorin the outdoors or being a foodie with my partner and bestfriend @jasongallant96. He works full time as an alternate master grower at a cannabis facility (so rad). You could say I love pots and he loves pot… lol

🏔I love to travel. My favourite part about visiting new places is always seeing the different landscapes and wildlife. I’ll be doing my first solo road trip of California at the end of the year. Let me know of any travel recs!

🐇I’m a #hardcore animal person. I can’t wait until I own a house one day with some acreage and can rescue unlimited pets and farm animals. I currently volunteer weekends with the OSPCA and 10% of proceeds from the art I sell always goes directly to them. Animals>humans.

P.S. Please tell your dog I say hi!!

Some controversial takes✨🙃

Respectfully, someone can pry my never-ending glaze collection from my cold, dead hands.

Oops … crazy how that just seems to always happen?? Or is this just me? I rationalize it because it’s a screen-free hobby🫡. #canadianceramics #weirdceramics #hamiltonartist #playwithclay #potteryglazing taken in Dundas, Ontario by @weirdnorthcreative

I know it’s a little late for the 2023 videos but here’s a quick recap of some of the four-legged friends I had the absolute pleasure of spending time with in an otherwise garbage year. Working from home coupled with dogsitting has been a true godsend. Happy to know I spend more days in the company of animals that not. Also quick reminder that 10% of proceeds from all items sold go towards animals in need. Let me know if there are any local rescues that are near and dear to your heart so that I can add them to my future donations list. After a busy holiday season of moving, I’m hoping my studio will be all setup soon and my shop will be restocked in the near future 😩. Is there anything in particular you’d like to see next or see more of?

SAVE THIS PART 2🔽🍷🍓
Today I’m going to show you the final (and funnest) steps of brewing kombucha!

🍓✨Strawberry Mint Kombucha - 2nd Fermentation

1️⃣Flavour your booch! You can add whatever fruit, herbs or spices you’d like - get creative. One of my other favourite flavour combos is raspberry and lime. The kombucha will take on the flavour and colour of the foods you add while using the new naturally occurring sugars to get fizzy during the 2nd fermentation!

2️⃣Close the pressure-sealed bottle and let it sit for 2-3 days. Again, I like to let the mixture sit out until it’s just a bit more sour than I’d prefer. I find that when I finish the 2nd fermentation and start to store it in the fridge, some of that sourness will tone down. Keep an eye on the mixture in case it gets too sour or fizzy too quickly - explosions can happen.

3️⃣Enjoy this homemade refreshing non-alc beverage! Kombucha always tastes better when drank out of a fancy glass😉 I generally keep my kombucha stored in the fridge for extended periods of time until it starts to smell and/or look weird (which takes a very long time) but if you want to be a good healthy citizen, maybe consume within a couple of weeks! Fun fact - putting the kombucha in the fridge will pause all fermentation.

Any questions? What flavour combos would you try?

👆🏼One thing I’ve learned as I’ve gotten a few years deep into my 9-5 career is the difference between the “work to live” and “live to work” mentalities.

Neither one is right or wrong - it ultimately comes down to how you feel and what areas of your life give you the most fulfillment. I used to feel guilty about how I prioritized my evenings and weekends but very quickly realized that in order for this 9-5 career life to be sustainable for me, I needed to make the most of those moments and be more proactive about planning my free time doing the things I love: making pottery, spending time outdoors, camping, reading, being with my dog.

As much as I’d love to have the flexibility and finances to travel somewhere exotic every month, it just isn’t practical and that’s pretty common and normal for most people (ayooo especially in a recession🙄). Now I spend my evenings and weekends finding other ways that I can escape… whether it be through my art, a new book or exploring my backyard.

Finally had a chance to explore Goderich this weekend, named one of Canada’s most beautiful towns. Just when I think i’ve seen all the lovely little places Ontario has to offer, home still surprises me. It’s places like this that give me the most inspo to create✨.

I also highly recommend checking out the Falls Reserve Conservation area to walk - slip - swim in the river rapids - it’s a great place to see your life flash before your eyes (First time I’d hoped to see Monday in a long time😅) What are your favourite secret spots in Ontario?

SAVE THIS RECIPE🔽🍷🍓
Today I’m satisfying my creative itch by making some home brewed booch! Tastes amazing and saves me tons of money. Kombucha has always been one of my go-to fizzy and fancy beverages for the summer.

🍓✨Strawberry Mint Kombucha - 1st Fermentation

1️⃣Make your sweet tea. I like to boil a large pot of water and dissolve as much sugar as I can in it before it no longer dissolves. This is how we feed our S.C.O.B.Y (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). Steep pure tea of your choice until it is saturated (white tea, green tea, etc.)

2️⃣Once the tea has steeped and cooled to no warmer than room temperature, you can pour the tea into your bottle of SCOBY and some leftover kombucha from a previous recipe (or raw unfiltered unflavoured booch from the store)

3️⃣Cover your jar of kombucha mixture with a cheesecloth or paper towel and elastic band to keep out any dust or other nasties but let the mixture ~breathe~.

4️⃣ Let the mixture sit and undergo 1st fermentation for 2-3 days (fewer if the resting space is warmer since fermentation will happen faster). I like to occasionally taste-test the solution and let it ferment until it is slightly more sour/vinegary than I’d like.

Any questions? Follow for how I complete the fun part - 2nd fermentation!

What better way to beat the heat during an extreme weather warning?? Finally getting around to hosing down my Claypron from @tuckers.pottery. This apron is always perfect to use when I’ve got some mud to throw but am not feeling in a particularly ~messy~ mood. Also, y’all know I love me some red clay and red clay can stain… Obviouslt also wearing my fave Islander hat from @sundayafternoons_ca. I hope everyone in Southern Ontario enjoys their air conditioning today!
