Beyond grateful for the opportunity to share Risk and Release @rockymountainchoreography tonight.

This work explores the relationship between two individuals longing for a shared goal beyond their reach; they support and challenge one another to push their limits and find peace in the process.

I am so incredibly proud of the hard work @ava_borngesser and @casey.sacharski have put into learning this piece and making it their own in such a short time frame.

Let’s leave it all on the stage tonight!

In light of the Cornell 7 Case going to trial, I feel this piece I created in response to the Brock Turner/Stanford rape case in 2016 is appropriate to share now.
I wish sexual assault wasn’t still being given such lenient sentences a decade later.

A Victim’s Voice.

🚨TRIGGER WARNING🚨
This choreographic work explicitly details the pain of the victim of the Stanford Rape Case and may be triggering to those who have experienced sexual assault in the past.

I created this piece to explore the emotions the victim of the Stanford Rape Case felt while the whole country discounted her experiences and continued to list off the accomplishments of her assaulter.

I want this piece to cause you to think and to hopefully want to advocate for change on our campuses in this country.

If you want to get involved, EROC, which stands for End Rape On Campus is an excellent organization to reach out to. They fight for girls and boys to have their title IX rights in assault cases on campuses all over the country.

Throwing it back to performing my embodied prayer solo, ‘Meditative Metamorphosis’ in ORBIT:tiny dances @conderdance April 12th!
The costume I’m wearing I sewed myself for my thesis. 💙

Huge thank you to Carley Conder for curating such a diverse and exciting show and allowing me to have this incredible experience. I’ve always wanted to be a part of a Ten Tiny Dances Festival and it was so exciting to finally make that dream a reality. 🥰

Dancing on a teeny tiny 2 foot high platform is definitely scarier than it looks, though. 😅😂

Sentimental thesis concert dump: 1/3

I could not be more grateful to have worked with so many talented, thoughtful, emotive, and profound artists in my thesis concert, Seeking Serenity.

This process was deeply personal to me,
as it portrayed my personal faith journey with a message of hope: you can find connection, self actualization, and hope when you connect to something beyond yourself.
When you look past your circumstances and believe something out there sees you, knows you, believes in you, and craves relationship with you. 💙

I pray that everyone who was a part of this process left feeling seen, heard, known, and loved. That they were enough just as is. 💙✨

My thesis work, Seeking Serenity, utilizes Screendance to further the narrative at the beginning, middle, and end of the work in conjunction with live dancing onstage.

Huge thank you to @jingqiu.guan @dukeuniversitydanceprogram for suggesting I incorporate this element into my thesis last spring!

Screendance is choreography specifically created for the camera, where the editing of the footage creates the dance just as much as the dancing itself.

A snippet from an improvised solo work titled Love/Hate. Heavily considering reworking this and creating a new solo from it 👀

Originally this solo was created in a time when I felt a deep internal push and pull between continuing to pursue my professional ballet career or to change directions and further pursue a modern dance career and feeling like I somehow didn’t fit into either realm.

Was thinking about how much fun I had choreographing this for my advanced choreo final fall semester.
This piece was created using the directions for how to start a chainsaw as inspiration, so I lovingly called it The Chainsaw Hoedown 🤠🪚🎶

I love choreography class so much, @samwatson444 is always giving us prompts that help us create completely innovative work that I never would have thought to create on my own. And we get the opportunity to create on the incredibly talented dancers of @uazdance freshman cohort! 🥰

*I was so curious about how Mandarin Chinese got mixed with bluegrass in this song and learned that Abigail Washburn is actually the coolest folk musician/US Ambassador to China ever?! Look her up! This song combines a traditional Chinese folk song Washburn learned in Sichuan Province with her own funky and original bluegrass instrumental.*

Channelled my inner Anne Miller for my jazz final ✨💃🏻

Too Darn Hot from Kiss Me Kate 🔥😘

I’m very proud of this choreography, it was a personal challenge to choose to dance in character shoes, as that’s something I always struggled with in undergrad.
I can see how much I have grown in my Jazz skills since then. ❤️

@uazdance @quezington86 thank you to my jazz professor, Marquez, for challenging us to create and perform these solos! It was empowering to conquer this fear in front of my incredibly supportive peers at the school of dance. 🫶🏻
