When our founder Kate discovered Project Angel Heart, she thought of her mom. Free, medically tailored meals would have made her cancer journey a little easier.

For 35 years, this Denver nonprofit has cooked for Coloradans living with serious illness. Registered dietitians and professional chefs make every meal from scratch. Each one is designed around a client’s condition, treatment, and side effects.

It is one of the few organizations accredited by the national Food is Medicine Coalition. Since 1991, it has delivered 12 million meals. In 2025 alone, 804,800 meals reached 5,332 people, from Pueblo to Fort Collins, Colorado.

On Wednesday, November 25, the third annual Gobble Gobble Give aims to deliver 15,000 meals across Colorado. For many recipients, it arrives on a holiday they may not get to spend with friends or family.

If in the Denver area, consider volunteering in the kitchen or delivering meals.

If elsewhere, donations are graciously accepted and help sustain this massive and much needed culinary operation.

Project Angel Heart believes food is medicine and they are actively fighting for policies that could make nutritious food more accessible. Together with Kaiser Permanente they will co-host the fourth annual Colorado Food is Medicine Summit in January 2027.

Waking up in the ICU after a seven-hour surgery and a collapsed lung, Priscilla Smith faced a realization: her fight with endometriosis was no longer something she could keep private. After having to explain the condition to her own recovery nurse, the artist and welder resolved to turn her pain into purpose.

Seven months later, FLARE (Flourish in Life through Art and Resources for Endometriosis) was born. What started as an idea in a hospital bed became a movement and a powerful three-day exhibition in New York City, bringing together over 30 global artists, doctors, advocates, and patients. Where medical charts document clinical facts, art conveys the lived human experience. Illuminating Endometriosis, the inaugural exhibit this September gave voice, connection, and validation to a community moving out of the shadows.

Full article on Priscilla’s endometriosis journey and why she built FLARE on Well City Guide.

Thank you to Priscilla and the FLARE artists, team, and community for the work you are doing to collectively increase visibility and advocacy of endometriosis. We know it’s just beginning.

Freezing rain ended Sam O’Neill’s 50-mile hike a day early. In 2027, he’s going back with fourteen others.

Earlier this year, Sam and his brother-in-law set out on a three-day backpacking trip through South Carolina’s Francis Marion National Forest. After a night of relentless downpour, they called it on the morning of day three. The warm shower felt good. The unfinished trail did not. So Sam made a promise to finish it, and then made it bigger. The Farther Out Challenge was born: a trek that brings people together, connects them with the outdoors, and gives back to the land they love exploring.

Fifteen hikers will follow the Swamp Fox and Awendaw Passages of the Palmetto Trail, from inland forest to the coast. It is not a race. It is not a luxury trip. It is physically demanding, intentional, and unplugged. Everyone carries their own gear, and all fifteen will finish together.

The challenge, in partnership with the National Forest Foundation, will support the organization’s efforts to preserve and improve America’s national forests. The goal is to raise $10,000, and the team plans to surpass it before setting foot on the trail.

Where to sweat, plunge, and glow. Six Denver destinations for sauna, cold plunge, and light therapy.

Denver has always thrived on contrast. Ski fresh powder one day, play tennis in short sleeves the next. Now locals are embracing those elemental extremes year-round, in modern bathhouses and backyard saunas that double as wellness-focused third spaces.

1. Sacred Society | Highlands
Sound baths, breathwork, yoga, meditation, mat Pilates, and IV hydration treatments under one roof. Light therapy lives in a private room: the TheraLight 360, a full-body bed of red and near-infrared light.

2. RÖK Spas | Downtown, Union Station
A Nordic-style bathhouse built for groups. A 40-seat cedar dry sauna at 194°F, a eucalyptus steam room, and five cold tubs from 55°F down to 37°F, with a warm soaking tub between rounds.

3. PORTAL° | LoHi
An outdoor thermaculture club with a social streak, from live DJ sets to pop-ups.
Two saunas and three single-person plunges.

4. Sway | Larimer Square · RiNo · Central Park
Massage and facials with a dedicated recovery wing.
Sauna, cold plunge, compression boots, and red light or PEMF.

5. Garden Sauna | Capitol Hill
A calm urban sauna within the Roots Collective, alongside a yoga studio, apothecary, and cafe.
Roll out of class, into the sauna, then into the cold plunge.

6. Denver Sports Recovery | LoHi
A robust range of sport and longevity modalities with professional-grade equipment. A variety of contrast circuits and light therapy for members and day-pass visitors. Plus the Ammortal Chamber, which some consider the “holy grail” of longevity treatments.

Save this for your next cold morning in Denver. The full guide is on wellcityguide.com.

Diplo’s Run Club pairs a timed 5K with a post-race concert by Diplo and friends.

It’s a running event welcome to beginners and one where the community celebration goes beyond the finish line. Organizers say more than half of participants ran their first 5K at one of Diplo’s Run Club events.

The tour partnered with PLUS1 to give back to local communities in each city. For every registration, $1 is donated to Good Sports, a nonprofit that helps provide new sports gear to kids in high-need communities.

Here are the 6 remaining dates that you can still sign up for:

San Francisco · Robin Williams Meadow, Golden Gate Park · Oct 18

New York City · Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens · Oct 24

Los Angeles · Los Angeles State Historic Park · Nov 8

San Diego · Gallagher Square at Petco Park · Nov 21

Mexico City · Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez · Jan 10, 2027

Phoenix · Margaret T. Hance Park · Jan 23, 2027

At the base of Spain’s Sierra de las Nieves, Shanti-Som was built on a simple premise: true luxury is an absence of pressure.

While open-ended wellness retreats run year-round, Shanti-Som is opening its doors from January 27–31, 2027, for an intimate sleep restoration retreat capped at just 12 women.

Led by sleep specialist Kathryn Pinkham (@theinsomniaclinic ), this 4-night experience replaces generic wellness lectures with evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). Designed for women navigating chronic stress, perimenopause, and burnout, the protocol systematically unlearns sleep anxiety to reset a hyper-vigilant nervous system.

A glimpse into your days:
• Early morning meditation, Yoga & Pilates
• Guided hikes through UNESCO-protected mountain trails
• Botanical spa treatments, saunas & cold plunges
• Personalized CBT-I workshops based on your sleep assessment
• Guided evening wind-downs

No trend-chasing. No pressure. Just 12 women, an expert practitioner, and a mountain sanctuary built to help you finally rest well.

📌 Save this to your Q1 Travel Folder or tap the link in bio to read the full feature on Well City Guide.

Come to Oaxaca for the mole, tlayudas and mezcal. Stay curious about the culture, history and traditions that have shaped this place for thousands of years.

Oaxaca is home to sixteen officially recognized Indigenous peoples, including Zapotec communities whose history in the region stretches back millennia. At Monte Albán, one of Mesoamerica’s great ancient cities and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that history is written into the landscape.

It also lives in traditions still practiced today.

One is temazcal, from the Nahuatl temazcalli, meaning “house of heat” or “house of steam.” More than a sauna or spa treatment, temazcal has deep ceremonial roots across Mesoamerica. Traditionally constructed from adobe or stone, the heated space may incorporate volcanic rocks, medicinal herbs, copal, song and prayer.

For travelers, that distinction matters.

In Oaxaca, you’ll find both family-run temazcales rooted in living traditions and experiences adapted for tourism. If you choose to participate, seek practitioners with genuine ties to the tradition, ideally through a trusted local introduction. Arrive hydrated, unhurried and ready to listen. You are being welcomed into a practice with meaning beyond the experience itself.

Beyond Oaxaca City, make time for Monte Albán, the native plants of Jardín Etnobotánico, and the extraordinary mineral formations of Hierve el Agua, where the surrounding landscape also holds evidence of ancient Zapotec water management.

And travel slowly.

Hire local guides. Shop the markets. Visit locally owned mezcalerías. Support weaving cooperatives in Teotitlán del Valle. Eat where the people preparing the food are connected to the place and its traditions.

Oaxaca offers an extraordinary amount to travelers. The best way to experience it is not simply to consume what makes it beautiful, but to understand who has preserved that beauty and help ensure tourism benefits the communities carrying it forward.

Our guide to Exploring and Healing in Oaxaca, Mexico is now on Well City Guide.

Save this for your Oaxaca trip. 🇲🇽

Better sleep starts at sunrise.

Your body runs on a clock. Light, timing, and temperature set it. None of it needs a device, and most of it is free.

Here’s the daily sleep routine backed by neuroscience:

1. Wake up at the same time every day, weekends too.
2. Within 1 hour of waking, get 10 to 30 minutes of outdoor light.
3. Have your first coffee 90 minutes after waking. Skip caffeine in the afternoon.
4. Exercise earlier in the day, if possible.
5. Step outside again in the evening as the sun sets.
6. Dim your lights after 8pm and limit screens.
7. Stop eating 2 to 3 hours before bed.
8. Take a warm bath 90 minutes before bed. Epsom salt optional.
9. Cool your room to 65 to 67°F.
10. Try nasal breathing at night.

Your body knows how to sleep. Give it the day it expects. The full protocol, with sources, is on Well City Guide in our Health & Longevity category. Link in bio.
