Ep 1 of Health beyond Food

I believe health is also about recognising the patterns we’ve inherited from the society and culture we grew up in and having the courage to question the ones that no longer feel healthy for us.
This is simply my opinion

Also, I meant to say “elders” for most of the video🙈

I am Divyangana Choudhary, a lawyer by education and Health Coach/Hatha Yoga Teacher by profession.
My decision to study law for my under-graduation was made not because I was passionate about the field of Law, but because even though I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I did know what I didn’t want to do, and that was to take up Science in my Under-graduation, and the only two fields that were presented to me as an option back then were, Law and Science, it was tremendously torturous to study Science during Junior College itself, there was no way I was going to continue that. So obviously the motivation to go in the direction of Law was not for the right reasons, despite that I did find myself intrigued by parts of what law had to offer, such as public speaking.
But once I graduated and worked in the field for a couple of years it was clear to me that I had no interest in the field and hence I was unable to give it my 100%.
All through college and even after, the one thing I was always known for and even jokingly mocked for, was the commitment to my routine, sleeping early and also my liking to eat healthy and nutritious food.
Come Covid and the lockdown, it gave me the opportunity to do an online course in Yoga and Ayurveda. That sparked the beginning of my journey. I then wanted a more immersive experience, so I decided to go and stay in Rishikesh for two months and learn yoga there, it was one of the best experiences of my life.
After that, I started my own little studio from home and started conducting classes there. I knew that there was more to learn, a deeper more intensive learning, and hence in 2022 after I got accepted for the course, I did my 5 month Residential Traditional Hatha Yoga Teacher training. Those 5 months of intensive training, with no breaks, no weekends, really changed a lot for me. After graduating, I started studying to become a Health Coach and decided to take a chance and moved to Bali and conduct my practice from here.

Ep 11 Health beyond Food - A deeper look into social & family conditioning that has a very real impact on our health & wellbeing.

When a woman speaks and everyone loses interest or interrupts her, is it really harmless if it happens every single time?

Being stuck in a burnout or low-energy cycle can be emotional burnout. Maybe you're someone who constantly has to explain yourself, gives too much of yourself, and finds yourself in relationships where that care is rarely reciprocated, empathy burnout.
Maybe you're in a toxic work environment or an unhealthy relationship. Or perhaps nutritional and other lifestyle factors are contributing to your low energy.
But understanding what's causing your burnout is just as important as figuring out how to get out of it.

As a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach here's what I'd start doing to break the cycle.

1. Slow, mindful Hatha yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️
Research suggests that yoga can help reduce perceived stress. Gentle movement coordinated with your breath may support relaxation without adding to an already demanding routine.
2. Slow breathing + humming 🌬️🎶
Slow, comfortable breathing can influence autonomic nervous system activity and support your body’s relaxation response. Add five minutes of gentle humming or chanting. Research has explored humming’s physiological effects, including its potential influence on vagal activity. Together, these practices may support relaxation and parasympathetic activity.
3. A protein-rich, balanced breakfast 🍳
Pair protein with fibre-rich carbohydrates and healthy fats. A balanced breakfast can support satiety and help maintain steadier blood glucose levels, which may help prevent energy dips associated with irregular eating.
4. Be intentional with caffeine ☕
Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and can increase adrenaline release. Having coffee alongside or after a balanced breakfast containing protein, fibre-rich carbohydrates and healthy fats may help support a steadier morning energy routine. Caffeine can also affect glucose regulation, and its effects vary between individuals.
You don’t need an intense, tightly packed wellness schedule. Start with small habits you can practise consistently while continuing to investigate persistent fatigue.

HEALTH BEYOND FOOD | Emotional Well-being & Indian Family Conditioning
1. Constant criticism ≠ wanting the best for your child.
You can want your child to grow and thrive without constantly pointing out their flaws. Perfection should never come at the cost of warmth, encouragement, and feeling loved.
2. Micromanaging your adult child isn’t protection.
Your child needs room to develop their own identity, make decisions, and find their own way. Recognising your anxieties and learning to separate them from your child’s journey is an important part of parenting. Love doesn’t require control over every aspect of their life.
3. Men’s opinions aren’t inherently more valuable than women’s.
Ignoring your daughters’ or daughters-in-law’s opinions while giving the men your undivided attention sends a powerful message about whose voice matters. A healthy family makes room for everyone’s perspective, regardless of gender or earning capacity.
4. You don’t have to belittle your daughter to love your son-in-law.
Your heart has room for both. Welcoming a new family member doesn’t require putting your daughter down, silencing her, or placing someone else on a pedestal at her expense. Love doesn’t need a hierarchy.
5. Respect isn’t the same as fear of authority.
When you expect your child to suppress their hurt because an elder has disrespected them, you teach them that authority matters more than dignity. Ask yourself: do you want to be genuinely respected, or simply obeyed?
6. Withholding affection to control your child is emotionally harmful.
Giving your child the silent treatment or withdrawing warmth over their appearance, clothing, or life choices can create anxiety and people-pleasing. Love shouldn’t feel conditional on doing everything exactly as someone else wants.

We need more conversations about Indian family conditioning, suppressed emotions, and their impact on our well-being.

Episode 10: Health Beyond Food
Moving out of home isn’t an option or a choice for everyone. So here are three things I would start doing to protect my mental health while living with my Indian family.
1. Wake up an hour before everyone else.
Give yourself some quiet time to journal, ground yourself, and set your own priorities before the morning conversations and household chaos begin.
2. Stop absorbing your parents’ conflicts.
You can listen with empathy without carrying their hurt, confusion, or family conflicts as your own. Their relationships are theirs to navigate, not yours to fix.
3. Stop overextending yourself.
You don’t have to put your own schedule and priorities aside every time someone needs help. Offer support when you genuinely have the time and capacity.

Follow along for Part 2 and more tips to protect your mental health while navigating Indian family dynamics.

Share this with a friend who might be struggling, and check in on them. ❤️

Comment “EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE” if you or someone you know wants support in building nervous system resilience to better navigate cultural and family dynamics like these, which can be emotionally exhausting.

Episode 8 | Health Beyond Food
Basic human respect should have nothing to do with generations or how much the world has changed.
Everyone in your home, regardless of gender, career, financial contribution, or the role they choose within the family, deserves the same warmth, the same respect, and the same opportunity to speak and be heard.
These are not privileges to be earned. They are non-negotiables.
And constantly having to explain to the people you love that you deserve basic respect can take a real toll on your emotional well-being.

If you or someone you know is trying to break out of these exhausting patterns and build better emotional resilience, follow along and reach out. ❤️

Episode 7: Angry Daughter.
What’s worst isn’t just what happened. It’s being told, years later, to “just move on.”

Moving on without any real acknowledgement of the extent of that damage can feel like a betrayal of the person she fought so hard to become. The woman who finally learned to respect herself, recognise her worth, and demand that same respect from the people around her.

To all the angry daughters: may you heal, with or without their acknowledgement. May your boundaries remain strong, your self-respect stronger, and may you never again have to abandon yourself to keep your loved ones.

EP 6 Shaming your child.
Not paying attention to their ACTUAL SKILLS.
And constantly telling them, “If you can’t do this, at least do that.”
What if the very things you’re teaching your child to be ashamed of are actually their strengths?
Their vocal ability.
Their ability to communicate and discuss ideas deeply.
Their empathy.
Their intuition.
Their ability to connect with people.
If they were allowed to recognise, develop and hone their natural skills, they might build success in their own way.
Instead, we keep trying to fit them into a checklist:
Good job.
Good marriage.
Good life.
But what about the foundational checklist?
Am I creating a safe home?
Am I allowing my child to discover their own strengths?
Am I giving them the space to become who THEY actually are?
Because if you get the foundation right, your child has a much better chance of building a good life — in their own way.
Maybe the goal isn’t to tick every box for your child.
Maybe it’s to create an environment where they can learn to choose their own boxes.
