Where Are the Kings by Donal Ryan

Tender, funny, heartbreaking.

Jack’s story shows a teenager adrift in grief and longing, confused and hurting, caught up in all the intensity and messiness of being a teenager.

Beautiful writing from Donal Ryan yet again. I’ll be thinking about this book for a while yet. #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

📚 The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett

A great storyline following the lives of women from all walks of life, in a time when women and girls — of every age, colour and creed — were oppressed in one way or another.

A story of true grit, determination and sisterhood, and of women finding the strength to stand together and overcome the odds. ❤️

It was an enjoyable read, although, for me, it was 200–300 pages too long! #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

📚 In the Dark by Claire Allan

Nora’s daughter Daisy is missing, and what follows is a twisty, unsettling story where nothing feels quite as straightforward as it first appears.

There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and I can definitely appreciate how the story was put together. But, unfortunately, it just didn’t grab me as much as I’d hoped. I found myself more curious about what would happen than genuinely invested in the characters or story.

A solid psychological thriller with plenty to unravel but sadly not one that completely pulled me in. #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

Never To Be Found – Jo Spain 📚

This story is based on the Japanese concept of Jōhatsu – people who voluntarily disappear and start a new life. A good twisty tale and an enjoyable read! 📖 #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

The Eights by Joanna Miller tells a fictional story based on real historical events. Set after World War 1, it follows the friendship of four young women studying at Oxford at a time when women were barely tolerated there. Against a backdrop of war, suffragettes, and women finally gaining the vote in Britain, it’s an interesting read. Not my usual genre, but sometimes a change is as good as a rest. #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

Close to Home is a debut novel by Michael Magee. It touches your heart and frightens the life out of you.

It tackles so many difficult themes but at the heart of it all is a mammy’s love, the bond between brothers, and also the childhood friends who know you inside out - the ones who will always hold you up and have your back.

Raw, honest and compassionate - a great read! #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

I watched a wonderful programme on Nationwide RTÉ One this week (a repeat from before Christmas) which featured Studio Donegal @studiodonegal and their incredible handweaving tradition. I couldn’t resist ordering some of their beautiful handwoven bookmarks as birthday and Christmas gifts for my book loving friends.

When I opened the package, I was genuinely delighted. These are such small items, and it was only a small order, but the care that went into presenting them was anything but small. The ten bookmarks were arranged in a beautiful colour gradient, making the unboxing feel just as special as the gifts themselves.

It’s lovely to support a business where craftsmanship and attention to detail shine through from the weaving right down to the packaging.

Land by Maggie O’Farrell 🌿📚

Up to about page 100, I could have taken or left this book. How glad I am that I stayed with it.

What unfolds is a beautiful, expansive story about land—its magic, its pull, its wildness, its power. It’s about belonging, memory, comfort and pain. The landscape becomes a character in its own right, shaping the lives of everyone who walks upon it.

Some books ask for patience before they reveal themselves. This was one of them, and it was more than worth the wait. #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

Slow start, ice-cold vitamin drink and a good book. That’s enough for me. Currently reading Land by Maggie O’Farrell. #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

The Best of Everything by Kit de Waal is one of those books that quietly works its way into your heart.

Paulette’s story is told with such tenderness, honesty and compassion that I found myself completely invested in her journey. It’s moving without ever feeling sentimental, and beautifully captures the complexities of love, family, resilience and hope.

An excellent read that will stay with me.❤️📚#wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey

Little Vanities by Sarah Gilmartin
I really enjoyed this book. It follows a group of friends as they grow up, couple up and navigate all of life’s highs and lows. But running through it all is that blurry line between friendship and desire, always threatening to change everything. #wellreadaudrey by @wellreadaudrey
