Meet Eifion!

He’s one half of Welshot! Lee would say the most important half! Because he’s the one people refer to as a “Human Camera Manual”

How many people do you know that reads camera manuals for fun - even when they don’t use that particular camera?

He reads them so you don’t have to, and then, makes up an easy to read, workbook specific to you and your camera.

Eifion loves nothing better than spending a day helping someone who’s booked on a Welshot One-to-One Learn Your Camera session - covering the theory and the practical.

While we say this is a 5-hour One-to-One photography tuition day, in reality, as with all Welshot events, if you are coming to learn, the learning doesn’t stop just because your session has ended…

Welcome!

Thought we’d do a bit of a re-introduction…

It’s Eifion & Lee here and together we are @welshot

📸 - Welshot will be 16 years old in April 2025

📸 - We started doing what we do because we saw a need in helping people to get the best from the camera and kit they already had.

📸 - We believe photography should be fun, and if it’s not, we are not doing it right - It’s our rule - it’s got to be fun!

📸 - We are a non competitive and safe environment - whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro, everyone is welcome.

📸 - Lee struggles with Dyscalculia (numbers) so she finds f-stops, apertures and all things mathematical a bit of an issue - so she understands when people struggle with all the settings and functions.

📸 - Eifion is patient, VERY patient and he reads camera manuals for fun - people refer him to a walking camera manual and wish they could stick him in the pocket! Just don’t let him catch you not using a lens hood 😉

📸 - Lee is a Kiwi but was born in Liverpool.

📸 - Eifion was born in Wrexham and speaks English and Welsh (but not great at talking Kiwi sometimes 😂)

📸 - Together they are Welshot and believe that the best camera is the one you’ve got - and it’s possible to learn it inside out and back to front - no question is a stupid question and there is ALWAYS more stuff to learn when it comes to photography.

📸 - Every skill, every genre, every technique in every genre of photography is transferable. One genre will help you learn another, and another, and another.

📸 - The only person that matters when it comes to whether your photo is liked or not, is you (or your client if you are a working professional photographer) - if you like it, that’s all that matters.

The Year That Changed My Life!

In 2008 I was asked to leave a camera club, being told I did not quite fit in… (Spoiler alert, I didn’t!)

I wanted to learn “HOW” to get the best from my camera – to understand how it worked and to be able to make and create images I could see in my mind’s eye through my camera and lens.

Enter stage left – Eifion Williams ( @eifionatwelshot ), a friend from the same camera club, who was working as a second photographer doing wedding photography at the weekends and following his passion for action and portraiture photography in his spare time.

Long story short, in 2009 we joined forces and created the @welshot Photographic Academy - with the simple aim of helping those who wanted to learn how to get the best from their camera could have a safe, fun, non-competitive and affordable environment in which to do so. taken in Welshot - Photographic Training & Events by @welshot

A day of cameras, conversations and connection 📸

I’ve been in North Wales to support my friend Lee @leeatwelshot at her @welshot Capture & Connect event, and collect some content of this stunning part of the world she lived and works.

Helping where I could, cheering her on, and getting to spend the day with a brilliant group of local business owners.

The idea behind the day was to showcase Welshot as a place to help people feel more confident creating their own content for their business, learn how to get more from the cameras and phones they already have, and bring local businesses together at the same time.

There was learning, experimenting, headshots, lunch, lots of chatting and plenty of swapping ideas.

And, it was a really useful day for me too!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the kinds of experiences, I want to create for business owners, so getting out from behind my own screen and actually talking to people about what they’re doing, and asking them about how creative experiences could help them as business owners to switch off and connect with their creativity.

It’s been wonderful to spend time with Lee & Eifion, see behind the scenes which I normally only see on a screen and they’ve looked after me so well!

And have had some great sleep (much needed) the best breakfasts at @brynwoodlandshouse with Tracey & Joel who are superb hosts.

I came away with new contacts, new conversations and a head full of ideas.

Look forward to coming back to North Wales!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Absolutely loved working with @marisisia_ in Chester at a “Getting to Know You” Photo-Shoot and then here at the Welshot Creative Hub in Llandudno, North Wales. So much fun! by @welshot

Yesterday was the hottest day ever in Llandudno, North Wales!

It was also the day of our second Welshot Creative “Colour Quest” adventure.

The day was about taking our time, looking a little closer at things, trying different ideas and discovering just how much fun being creative can be when there are no exams, no competition and no pressure to get it right.

Our young explorers experimented, asked questions, solved creative challenges, captured photos, made friends and spent time outside in the fresh air, even if it was a tad hot!

The photographs they created were wonderful, but the curiosity, and confidence they left with at the end of the day mattered even more.

Photography is the vehicle, not the destination.

I knew we were gonna get some work done but when you work with @michellenewman_flow of Flow Business Support it blows all expectations out of the water.

We accomplished so much in one day we even had time for an impromptu photo-shoot to promote her notebook bundle ( which, by the way, are perfect for all stationery addicts )

I’m leaving London with a website that’s live, a freebie download to help families get creative over the summer, email sequences in place, a drive full of content, two adventures ready for the school holidays, and FB ads ready to be delivered.

I also had @aly.h_flow working hard behind the scenes too and between them kept me on point!

Im pretty sure we can safely say @welshotcreativeforkidsandteens is a GO!

I need to personally and publicly thank Michelle as she’s taken the time to understand me, how I work, why I work the way I do and quickly realised the help, support and plan I needed to get shit done!
