Did you read Yesteryear?

I recently finished the book since it’s been such a hot topic. I read it quickly but I’m not sure I can say I enjoyed it. Women are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Then they go crazy. Did I miss something?

I’ve been struggling a lot with whether I should post more on social media. I find it difficult as a business owner to find the balance and frankly the time. But I have a ton of old project photos and videos. Yesteryear didn’t help though. I want to hide under the covers.

I hosted a few friends for a 2026 visioning brunch this weekend, and it was a beautiful way to start the year. I’m a fierce believer in creating the life you want to live, and I highly recommend dreaming surrounded by friends.

After everyone left, I found myself reflecting on the types of interior design projects and clients I want to work with this year. Historic homes, whole-home move-in refreshes, thoughtful furniture and finishes, and spaces that still feel layered and personal. Mostly in Portland, often in older homes with great bones.

These images are my quiet way of putting that intention out into the world and sharing what I’m most excited to design next. I’m looking forward to what this year brings, for me and for you. taken in Portland, Oregon by @wendycombsstudio

Every winter around the holidays, we go to Mount Hood. This year I had a moment that gave me a pause of gratitude and happiness. Christmas movies, games, all of us hanging out in one cozy space. On the drive home I mentioned to my husband that I wanted a little bit of that feeling at home. We didn’t have a TV in our living room at the time. That night, he set up a projector. (swoon)

This media room project from last year reminds me of that, and I’m so excited to finally be able to share it.

This is a family I’ve really loved working with. We worked in a many areas of the home, but this is one we fully leaned into. A 17-foot custom sofa made for everyone to pile on, two full walls of theater drapery that make movie nights feel extra cozy, a wood-paneled wall so the TV has a dark spot to rest on and a black ceiling.

It’s designed to grow with the kids as they get older and always be sophisticated enough for an adult night in as well.

Can I tell you how much I love when my clients are willing to lean in?!

As December hits, I really start to get into dark and cozy. But winter solstice is only three weeks away, and the days start to get longer. Maroon is having a moment, isn’t it.

Feeling so grateful to be working with three past clients over the last few months. When a client returns, it’s the best sign that what I do truly resonates.

Right now, we're working on an office and basement for one client, including these cozy seating nooks.

I previously designed their dining room, primary bedroom, and basement bathroom, and now we’re taking their home one step closer to feeling fully transformed. ✨

This is exactly what styling feels like to me. I’m constantly in motion, moving things around, picking them up, setting them down, swapping lamps, candles, books, and art.

I always start with a clear vision, but the real magic happens once I’m in the space and can see how each piece actually interacts.

It’s creative chaos, and sometimes I feel like a design fairy godmother bringing a room to life.
