I never thought about what I would do if I hooked or even landed a big fish. Where I would put em? How would I bring it back to shore? Yesterday was finally my time. The ocean tested me and sent this animal my way. After an hour long fight and a 5 hour paddle back in the wind, I made it back to the same place I launched from. Finally got to take an iconic @mauisportinggoods “high beam scale pic”. Beyond blessed to accept the honor of 1st place on the biggest kayak fishing stage in Hawaii. This years tournament was a regional qualifying event for Nationals in Florida. Everybody came out extra hungry and competition was tough. HUGE thank you to @taiover123 for throwing this all down and giving all us kayakers a reason to take our talents up a notch. @stevecarroll5 made the nicest trophy I ever seen in ANY tournament. Thank you to the sponsors that donated. @majorcraftamerica @teamrainshadow for the custom trophy rod. My @mauisportinggoods family. @waters_edge_baits for supplying the bait to catch bait. @stealthkayaks for making the baddest kayaks on the water. Catch and release tournaments are new to me. It adds a whole different skill set that needs to be on point if you plan to do well. I didn’t win, so I have a LOT to improve on. This is just a take on what it’s like. taken in Albufeira. Portugal by @wes_cal

World Championship of Kayak Fishing. Albufeira, Portugal. Still wild that kayak fishing has taken me to meet some of the most unreal places and people in the world. Congratulations to the winners that took the titles and trophies. Absolutely well deserved! To see what can be done in perfect conditions was mind blowing. These Europeans boys know how to hustle. Competitions are way more than winning though. The people we meet…the experiences and friends we gain…that’s what makes competitions worth going too. Thank you to @stealtheurope for making a crazy long drive so I could feel at home in a Fusion 480🤙🏿. Thank you @waters_edge_baits for always providing proven lures (I ran my opelu catching rig the whole time). Thank you Portugal 🇵🇹. by @wes_cal

2026 has been a wild one! Probably one of the windiest years in a long time. I pulled this one out just before the wind came up (the forecast said there wasn’t gonna be any wind). The weather apps have been giving me major trust issues. by @wes_cal

Team USA with GOLD 🏆. We had some serious talent on our team and kept pushing each other to adapt and thrive in a fishery that was unknown to a lot of us. Team Canada brought a lot of diversity and hustled. In the end we all got to experience the legendary Los Buzos together. I placed 2nd 🥈 overall. Still feels like a dream. I never thought fishing would take me to see the world🤙🏿 by @wes_cal
