But it ain't about who you love, no it's all about do ya love? do ya love? do ya love? - Michael Franti .

With Trump back in the White House I just had to sing this song today. I'm sending love and hope that somehow, someway, folks down South (and everywhere) can see that the Capitalist class and its imperialist political servants are the enemy and that loving folks from different backgrounds or with different ways of being are our comrades in an epic struggle that is so worth fighting.

Do Ya Love – Michael Franti and Spearhead (released 2001)

Fern Fest was so damn fun this year! Here's a snippet from 'Off Empire' which is a jazz/hip hop instrumental and the title track from our 1st album.

Thanks to @sarahosbornemusic for lending her amp, and playing an amazing show. I like the tone I was getting out of her Blues Jr. Also thanks to @fernwoodnrg for putting on another great festival.
Feat: Dakota Hoeppner, Owen Chow, Cyril Lojda, & Phill Albert.

It's nice when people think you're cool and competent, but even better when they're willing to make a public statement about it. Thank you so much to our endorsers.

On October 17th, vote Peter Rose Gibbs for city councillor. We need a councillor that's as smart, compassionate and brave as they are. 🌸

Wes: "I've lost count of the number of times I have seen Susan out at rallies in support of workers, decolonization, climate justice, and a free Palestine. She knows that wise policy is only the beginning: true local leadership in these times also calls for socialist solutions, sovereignty, and global solidarity. Join me in voting for Susan on October 17 to build a fair and dignified Victoria for all. "

🔊 🔊 🔊 'Practical Music Theory' starts one week from today at the VCM. 5-6:15 for 8 weeks. $194 .

In PMT we get to know pop harmony's 'usual suspects', along with a few quirky characters who show up from time to time. This class invites us to be curious about harmony starting with intervals, the distance between notes, to chords, to chord progressions. We'll play through parts of songs being curious about the harmonic reasons for why songs sound the way that they do. We'll also break things down and get to know each individual interval which serves as the building block for more complicated harmony. I designed this class especially for pop, folk, and indi musicians who want to grow their harmonic fluency without needing to delve into clefs and sheet music... This class is beginner friendly! ✌️

Stay tuned for practical music theory 2 in the new year which will be more of an intermediate level theory class.

About: A Commie Bop is freedom in motion: a song, a poem, a spell, a skit, a dance against the grind of colonial capitalism. It’s where creativity smashes exploitation, where solidarity squeezes alienation, and where we (yes, we, the ridiculous and unruly) celebrate our collective fire. This is a space to howl anti-capitalist anthems, share art that bites back, and honor past and future generations. Leftist debates? Vital. But tonight we revel in the kaleidoscope of our movement, checking our purity test kits at the door with our hearts open to each other’s stories. We have license to be silly little peasants! Think Carnival, mocking lords and kings…

Open Mic Sets: Your offering does NOT need to involve a complex analysis - our day-to-day experiences put us into the crosshairs of capitalism’s contradictions. Sets should be 10 minutes or less. Please explain why you chose or wrote what you’re sharing. Performers are encouraged to make space for audience participation - teach us your chorus, wrangle us into your skit, add call and response, or bring up Alice to play the tambourine or the triangle.

All acts should, in their own unique way, call for an end to exploitation and discrimination. This space celebrates dignity. Check lyrics for oppressive and triggering language (racist, sexist, ableist, SWERFS, TERFS, etc.). We fight systems, not each other. Please respect the venue. taken in The Mint Victoria by @wesconfab

I shared a solo/acoustic version of this one last week and since then came across a recording with the confabulation from April @ 'The Capitalocene EP' release show.

"You're Really Needed" - These times call on us to keep striving to be our whole, loving and brave selves... Not to more effectively compete in capitalist hustle culture but so that we can bring our hearts, artistry, and adult maturity into our communities and organize for a kinder, more connected world. <3 you're really needed...

Thanks to Steven Taddei, Cyril Lojda, and Dakota Heoppner for rocking out with me. @ @otherguisetheatre ! Thanks to Alabama Shakes and Jimi Hendrix for being inspirations to this track.

'Flakey Flakey' flakey flakey... this song about those friends of ours who are always running late and rescheduling. We owe a lot to them. By forgetting about lunch we get to have a solo date at a restaurant. By rescheduling the hike we have time to clean the bathroom... Blessed be the friends who are flakey <3

Big shout out to Jimi Hendrix for inspiring this one musically and to Steven Taddei, Cyril Lojda, and Dakota Heoppner for rocking out with me. @ @otherguisetheatre !
