First day of third grade. Living the suburban dream. Where does the time go? Sometimes I start to miss the little guy he once was, but then I get so overwhelmed with how amazing he is today. The constant becoming. Love this guy the most.♥️ by @wesmingus

Our next-door neighbor, Annalee Baker, who quickly became a dear friend, passed away last week. Saying my heart is broken (which it is) doesn’t begin to capture it.

The first time we knocked on her door, she invited us in, poured me a glass of wine, and just like that, our families clicked right into each other’s lives.

Annalee was generous, kind, funny, brilliant. She devoted her life to helping other people in their most treacherous moments as an ER doctor - and then came home and poured into her three awesome kids, and, as luck would have it, her next door neighbors. She was a freaking bad ass and I’m glad I told her so.

What made it all so special was the sweet, effortless friendship our kids forged. Watching Kai and her kids (and all the neighborhood kids) run up and down the street, digging for rocks, jumping off everything, entertaining themselves analog style for hours — it was exactly what we moved here for. Some people take that kind of thing for granted, but we never will.

I feel so lucky our mom paths crossed in the very special way they did, and beyond grateful for all the love and care (and hand-me-downs) she heaped on Kai.
