You can’t argue with junior development. You can’t argue with grit and competitiveness. You can’t argue with high IQ athletes. You can’t argue with elite level pathways. You can’t argue with Bearcats at the highest level.

To the many coaches, administrators and peers that helped influence these athletes across their junior careers, thank you. Because of you - they did. by @westadelaidebb

Dion Grieger’s connection to the Bearcats spans more than three decades, contributing as a player, captain, coach, mentor and administrator. His playing career ran from 1990 to 2002, highlighted by the 1996 Men’s State League Championship and captaincy in 2000 and 2001. But his influence only grew from there. Dion moved into coaching as Men’s Assistant Coach from 2003 to 2005, then Men’s Head Coach in 2006 and 2007, while also continuing his long-standing commitment to junior development - first coaching juniors in the late 90s and returning in 2012, a role he still holds today.

Since 2016, Dion has helped shape the next generation of Bearcats through his leadership as Director of the Bearcats Academies, Junior Development Officer and now Manager of Junior Operations. He hasn’t just represented the Bearcats - he has helped build the Bearcats. His work across senior teams, junior programs and club operations contributed to West Adelaide being named the 2026 SA Overall State Junior Club Champion for the first time in 40 years. Dion embodies excellence, loyalty, leadership and service - a player, captain, coach, mentor and true builder of the Bearcats.

Dion was presented by current Honour Roll member, Bob Hunnerup. by @westadelaidebb

Shayne “Tank” Kaesler has been a Bearcat for more than four decades, beginning in Under 10s and never stepping away. He rose through the junior ranks, won premierships, and became a tough, reliable presence in our senior teams, earning his nickname through fearless, competitive play. His impact, however, extends far beyond his playing career. Shayne led the Senior Men’s Division 3 program for many years, building a culture grounded in respect and service, with his players known as much for helping at Bunnings barbecues, club events and ABL home game bar duty as for their on‑court performances.

Shayne has coached countless junior teams, often stepping in wherever the club needed support, and continues that commitment today with the U16 Division 1 Boys. He has also been a steady voice in club leadership, serving on the Bearcats Executive Committee for around 15 years. Inducted as a Life Member in 2006, Shayne’s contribution is the kind that shapes a club’s character - long‑term, loyal, hands‑on and always for the right reasons. We honour his enormous impact and lifelong dedication to the Bearcats.

Shayne was presented his award by current Hall of Famer, Peter Ali. by @westadelaidebb

Brian and Margaret Williamson are names woven into the fabric of West Adelaide the heartbeat of the Bearcats for more than four decades. Brian, affectionately known as “Bear”, spent 18 years as Senior Men’s Team Manager, guiding the club to three State League championships while also managing junior teams, refereeing, serving on committees, cooking BBQs and becoming a fixture in the canteen for over 30 years. Margaret’s journey began through her boys, but she quickly became a pillar of the club, serving on committees, cooking dinners at Bower Road and supporting families. In 1991 she stepped into the role of WNBL Manageress, continuing through the transition to Adelaide Lightning and serving an extraordinary 30 years across State League and the WNBL.

Both were inducted as Life Members in 1999, and their involvement has never wavered — Brian now oversees the club’s vending machine, while Margaret lovingly stitched the blanket being auctioned tonight. Together, they embody the spirit of volunteerism that keeps community sport alive. Their dedication, generosity and love for the Bearcats have shaped our club for decades, and we honour them for a lifetime of service.

They were presented their awards by current Hall of Famers, Sam Woosnam and Mike McKay. by @westadelaidebb

Brad Dalton left a lasting mark on West Adelaide after moving from Sydney in the late seventies, quickly establishing himself as one of the premier big men in Australian basketball. From 1980 to 1982 he was part of three consecutive State League Championship teams, and across the 1981 and 1982 NBL seasons he played 47 games for the Bearcats, starting at centre in the club’s historic 1982 NBL Championship. His performances earned national selection, representing the Boomers at the 1982 World Championship, two Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988, and the 1986 World Championships. He later continued his distinguished career with the Sydney Supersonics, Geelong Cats and Sydney Kings, cementing his reputation as one of Australia’s leading centres.

Brad’s achievements have been recognised at the highest levels, including induction into the Basketball NSW Hall of Fame and the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. But before all of those accolades, there was West Adelaide. Brad was part of the generation that put the Bearcats on the national basketball map and played an integral role in delivering the club’s greatest triumph - the 1982 NBL Championship. We honour Brad Dalton not only for the remarkable career that followed, but for the vital part he played in the history of our great club. by @westadelaidebb
