The storm may have kept us from heading down to NYC for our annual Tunnel to Towers run, but it couldn’t keep us from supporting an incredible cause. 🇺🇸

Our WestConn Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse family came together and ran right here on campus to honor the brave first responders and service members who have sacrificed so much for others.

We may not have made it to the city this year, but the mission remains the same: Never Forget. Always Support. 💙

Thank you to @bsnsports for providing the shirts and helping us show our support!

On this day 25 years ago, our country was forever changed. We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the countless first responders, military members, families, and communities whose lives were changed forever.

One of those heroes was Stephen Siller, a firefighter with Brooklyn’s Squad 1.

On September 11, 2001, Stephen, who was assigned to Brooklyn’s Squad 1, had just finished his shift and was on his way to play golf with his brothers when he got word over his scanner of a plane hitting the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Upon hearing the news, Stephen called his wife Sally and asked her to tell his brothers he would catch up with them later. He returned to Squad 1 to get his gear.

Stephen drove his truck to the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but it had already been closed for security purposes. Determined to carry out his duty, he strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back, and raced on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he gave up his life while saving others.

Stephen left behind his wife, Sally, five children, family, friends, and a legacy of courage and sacrifice that continues to inspire people today.

On September 27, the WestConn Men’s Lacrosse team, along with WestConn President @jessembernal will honor Stephen and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice by running in the Tunnel to Towers 5K in New York City.

The proceeds support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its programs benefiting first responders, military members, and those catastrophically injured service members.

We invite our WestConn family, alumni, friends, and supporters to join our team or make a donation to this incredible cause.

Remember. Honor. Serve. 🇺🇸
