Hockey is fun isn’t @anzekopitar and the kids ? 😃

Anze Kopitar is enjoying retirement as you can see with a great smile on his face as he’s giving back to the game in such an incredible way for these kids, coaches, parents and team support staff.

They are all in this together and it’s fun to see.

Looking at these photos, it’s hard not to smile. The first image captures a young boy celebrating with pure joy, and the second shows him immediately sharing that moment with his teammates. Those are the kinds of memories that last a lifetime.

Knowing the hockey family Jakob comes from makes the moment even more meaningful. His father, Anže Kopitar, enjoyed one of the most respected careers in NHL history, winning Stanley Cups, serving as captain of the Los Angeles Kings, and earning a reputation as one of hockey’s greatest leaders. Now, instead of being on the ice himself, he’s behind the bench as an assistant coach for the Western Selects, watching his son begin his own journey.

I imagine this goal meant so much more than just putting a puck in the net.

For Jakob, it was likely a moment where years of driveway hockey, early morning practices, and learning from his dad all came together. Every young player dreams of hearing the crowd cheer after scoring, and to do it at The Brick Invitational one of the most prestigious youth hockey tournaments in the world is something very few kids ever experience.

But perhaps the most special part wasn’t the goal itself. It was knowing that his dad was there to witness it.

Every child hopes to make their parents proud. When your father has accomplished everything Anže Kopitar has in hockey, there can be expectations from others. Yet moments like these remind us that hockey isn’t about living in someone else’s shadow it’s about creating your own memories.

That celebration doesn’t look like a boy trying to be “the next Anže Kopitar.”

It looks like a young hockey player who simply loves the game.

And for his father, I imagine there was a feeling that every parent understands. Not pride because of the name on the back of the jersey, but pride because he was watching his son experience the same joy that made him fall in love with hockey all those years ago.

When Jakob Kopitar celebrated his goal for the Western Selects at The Brick Invitational, it wasn’t just another goal. It was the beginning of a dream that every young hockey player hopes to live.
