Levi is classy and has never been the one to hang his tongue out of the side of his mouth, but he was in absolute bliss running around, smelling all the wonderful smells, and digging all the holes hoping to meet a mysterious creature. “The Midnight Rider”

This was one of those pieces that was more difficult to draw and figure out. I was exploring a new style with this one, and tackling the question “how can I draw some sort of landscape with my neon lines?” Creating this drawing was a lot of fun, although the Ugly stage lasted long enough to discourage me to the point of abandoning the piece for five or six months. People love to point at an artist and command a wish like we’re some kind of genie for them. We are not. At least I am not. (This is a huge reason why I no longer do commission work.) Although some pieces flow and come together easily, that’s maybe 50% of them. As for the rest, there’s the element of time that has to go by. Time for fresh eyes to exist. For inspiration to strike brighter than my own limitations. Time to just invent a new thing from thin air. And I know all to well, when Someone puts their pressure on us to rush, do it faster, meet Their demand, the art is just not going to work. It is at high risk of being ruined. And ruin pieces I have. Anyway, here’s my new drawing. It took a long time. Not that anyone cares. I’m happy enough with how it turned out, but excited to push myself further in this direction and see how I can replicate this style with oil paint. taken in Flagstaff, Arizona by @westonayersart
