Why I use a needle for third lobes and higher ear piercings ✨

A piercing needle passes smoothly through the tissue, causing less trauma and swelling than the blunt studs used in traditional piercing guns. It also gives me more control over placement and lets me fit jewellery with enough room for initial swelling—especially important for third lobes, where everyone’s anatomy is different and the piercing can sit close to cartilage.

I use flatback jewellery for a comfortable fit against the ear. When correctly fitted, it avoids the butterfly clasp used on many gun studs, which can press against the skin and make the area harder to clean.

“Does it hurt?”
It’s quick, and everyone feels it differently. I hear this a lot afterwards: “That wasn’t as bad as I thought!”

“How long does it take to heal?”
It depends on the piercing. Some heal in a few months, while cartilage can take 6–12 months or longer to fully heal.

“Can I sleep on it?”
Try not to sleep directly on it while it’s healing. Pressure can irritate it and may affect the angle, especially with cartilage piercings.

“When can I change the jewellery?”
I’ll downsize your bar at around 4–6 weeks, once the initial swelling has settled. It’ll still be healing, so wait until it’s fully healed before changing to different jewellery.

“How do I clean it?”
Use sterile saline spray twice a day, morning and night. After spraying, gently pat it dry with a clean paper towel—don’t twist the jewellery. I have saline available to buy at the studio. Always wash your hands before touching your piercing!

“Can I get this piercing?”
Let’s check your anatomy first!
