To all our Coffeehouse friends in Hamilton + Toronto 🫵🫵🫵

We would love for you to come see Cast Aside the Clouds, a beautiful, award-winning film by Mary Darling, who some of you may remember from speaking at The Coffeehouse!

So much of what we’ve tried to explore through The Coffeehouse is how our careers, talents and interests can be directed towards the betterment of humanity. How can every action we take become ways of serving others, challenging injustice and changing the way people see the world?

Cast Aside the Clouds is such a beautiful example of this. Told through a love story set in contemporary Iran, the film explores discrimination against women, religious prejudice, and the courage it takes to question the assumptions we inherit.

For anyone interested in film, storytelling, media or human rights, this is also a really special chance to meet the film’s lead actress and director and hear from artists using their careers to speak about issues that matter (or hit some networking 🤭)

The film has received 17 international awards and honours and is currently on its festival run, and, because the film is dedicated to youth, everyone 30 and under can attend for $20.

☁️ HAMILTON — Aug. 26, 7 PM @ The Westdale
☁️ TORONTO — Aug. 29, 7 PM @ Isabel Bader Theatre

Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A with members of the cast and filmmaking team.

Come, bring your friends, and stay for the conversation afterwards. It feels so connected to what we hoped The Coffeehouse could be: a place where art, meaningful conversation, friendship and service come together. It would be so cool to see you there 🫶🫶 taken in The Westdale by @westwindpics

From audition to the Final Cut🎬

In early 2024 I flew to London from Barcelona for the weekend intent on finding housing in those 48 hours (if you’ve ever lived in London you know how foolish I was to think that was possible.)

Naturally, when you have the least amount of time is when you receive the most amount of work. Holed up in my Airbnb I blazed through the script and prepped my scenes after a day of demoralizing house hunting. I got up bright and early and ventured to a lovely self tape studio in North London, still completely unfamiliar in the city. As I made my way back on the tube, certain my little tape would go off into the ether never to be heard from again, I felt grateful for the work I got to do, in some stranger’s home, talking about acting and this bizarre, wonderful, painful, exciting and strange industry we’re in.

Now our little film is making its way to Canada! If you’re in Hamilton or Toronto come watch! You can find tickets through @castasidetheclouds by @westwindpics
