We’re getting closer to the northernmost point of Japan. Between the summer haze and the rainy season, sunsets like this have been few and far between. Last night, Hokkaido put on a show 🌅

Somewhere on Kyushu; a tiny fisherman’s cove that had enough room to stay for the night… and not be in the way of the local fishos.

It’s been super hazy skies for most of our trip, so when the sun does make an appearance, it’s worth the watch.

The fisherman at the end isn’t real; more on that in a minute.

From Tokyo, the Troopy cleared customs and we were on our way. A long drive south to stretch our legs and find cooler weather in the mountains was in order.

Shikoku is absolutely stunning. Huge mountains, deep valleys and pristine rivers. Villages cling to the steep mountainsides and tiny roads weave amongst bridges, tunnels and sheer drops into the valleys below.

The most striking thing - for us - was how ‘empty’ Shikoku felt. Villages with no one in them, schools long since closed and each town bearing the memory, in one way or another, of what life used to be like when the place was bustling with life. Hence the scarecrow. Fascinating. taken in Shikoku by @wewillroam
