April 15th is Jackie Robinson day.

Even now, people try to find fault with Jackie Robinson, personally and professionally. What they don’t realize is that pointing out whatever flaws he had doesn’t make him seem less impressive — but even more impressive. It shows he was an imperfect man who performed one of the most perfect human achievements of all time.
But words don’t adequately describe what Jackie Robinson did or what he went through. They can’t. It’s embarrassing to even try.
What’s a good way to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day? Find anyone you know under the age of 18 and make sure they know who Jackie Robinson was and what he did. Don’t let his memory be forgotten. Show them the movie “42.” Give them a book on Robinson. Or sit down and talk to them about him. It’s the best gift you can give them.

Forever, Robert Redford.

Forever the cowboy, the escapee, the candidate, the prisoner, the Great Gatsby, the con man, the student, the playboy, the loner, the cryptographer, the military man, the reporter, the rodeo champion, the lover, the baseball star, the sailor, the horse whisperer… More than 70 roles, nine directed films, the founding of the Sundance Independent Film Festival. And throughout a life dedicated to cinema, an unparalleled elegance in his art, his commitments, and his struggles. Redford was more than a myth: he was a role model. Forever Robert Redford, an electric horseman in love with freedom.

Today when US Senator Alex Padilla interrupted Sec. Kristi Noem’s press conference in D.C. to ask a question, he was focibly removed , held down and handcuffed. He was transported to the Federal Bldg where he was detained. A Senator was held WITHOUT CAUSE. Regardless of being a menber of our democratically elected government, Sen. Alex Padilla is an American citizen and was excercizing his right to free speach and assembly under the First Amendment. These events are heartbreaking and terrifying. We have to speak out, protest, and end the fascist takeover of our government. Expressing viewpoints that are unpopular with the current cabinet is NOT legal grounds for arrest. Elected officials and the Court of Roberts rule at the pleasure of the people of the United States. THEY answer to US, not the other way around!

BTW, this is all days before the President will spend millions of dollars parading military might through the streets of the capital in his honor, on his birthday. Screw the NEA and funding for Public Broadcasting, let’s have a military parade. Don’t fool yourselves, this is happening. by @wexley

Today, on the floor of the US Senate, Cory Booker spoke for 25 hours and four minutes to protest the current President, his cabinet and their divisive policies. In his final moments, Sen. Booker said to his fellow Senators, “I want you to redeem the dream. Let’s be bold in America, not to degrade Americans, not to divide us against each other, let’s be bolder in America with a vision that inspires, with hope that starts with the people of the United States of America.”

Thank you, Cory. And to anyone reading this, let’s honor what was done today. Let’s be bold, let’s inspire, let’s speak against hate and above all, let’s be brave enough to UNITE this country. by @wexley

Today the dodgers celebrated their 2024 World Series Championship with a parade.

Today would’ve been Fernando Valenzuela’s 64th birthday.
