This past weekend, we lost a remarkable leader and friend — Coach Darrell Sumpter. In honor of his memory and all he has done for us, we are dedicating our entire basketball season to him.

Coach D’s passion, guidance, and unwavering belief in each of us have shaped our team in incredible ways.

As we take the court, we will carry his spirit with us, playing with the heart and determination he instilled in us. Let’s come together to honor Coach D by giving our best in every game and supporting one another, just as he always encouraged us to do.

Thank you, Coach D, for everything. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Let’s pack out the gym tomorrow. 4PM. That’s what he would want ❤️ by @wfbvbasketball

The William Floyd Colonials boys’ varsity basketball team lost an overtime heartbreaker today to Corning-Painted Post in the NYSPHSAA quarterfinals by a score of 72-64. They truly gave it their all and left it out on the court today. It was an amazing season and the team built memories that will last a lifetime. Congratulations to the coaches, student-athletes and their families on an amazing season and their first-ever appearance in the state championships! #FloydStrong by @wfbvbasketball

William Floyd basketball has made history yet again, as both the boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball programs earned invitations to compete in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) State Championship Tournament for the first time ever!

Although both teams suffered hard-fought losses in their respective county championship games, both received at-large bids to compete in the NYSPHSAA state tournament!

Before the season, Section XI received, at random, the opportunity for the county runners-up to receive an at-large bid in the tournament. Now they have the opportunity to continue their exceptional seasons with a second chance to win a championship!

Good luck, Colonials! #FloydStrong #NYSBasketball
