a love letter to the parade cast & crew.

Getting to be a part of this show was both an honor and a privilege, and I didn’t even know it would be when I signed on. Getting to be backstage every night, seeing some of the most immensely talented people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting just absolutely crush it on the stage all fifteen nights, you truly reminded me of why I do this.

Parade changed me in so many ways. I found myself dressing in outfits I barely touch in my closet just because the group chat said let’s do it. I put an ungodly amount of time inside and out of the theatre just to give the cast line notes. I cried, cried, and cried a little more to a different part of the musical each and every night for one reason or another.

I’m forever grateful for my Parade family. You all deserve any praise coming your way for the masterpiece of a show you put on.

It was a very weird time in my life. I was finishing my junior year of high school, my friends were getting into all sorts of drama, I was working at my first job, and I wasn’t the happiest at the time. Then, like a beacon of light, shone Scaled And Icy. Just what I needed. A feel-good album, upbeat poppy vibes, right at the beginning of the summer. And oh boy, did it deliver.

Scaled And Icy is an anagram. Rearrange the letters and you’ll find “Clancy Is Dead.” Not true, but that’s what the bishops of DEMA wanted you to think, that Clancy, the Rebel and part of the banditos, is dead. When in actuality, he’s being held captive by the bishops, and being forced to write and perform for the people of DEMA, under their watchful eye. This album is far from the other music they’ve made, because it is not actually them. More of a brainwashed, filtered version of themselves.

Two tours came from this era. First was the Takeover Tour, where they played less cities but multiple venues in each, including Nationwide Arena in Columbus. This was the first time I ever got to see them in their Hometown. It was also the time I can say I got to watch an Ohio State game with them. (they put the live game on the screen every so often). Then came The Icy Tour about a year later, which was a more traditional tour. Still might be one of the best setlists I’ve gotten to see from them.

When it comes to this album and this era, people look back and dislike it. But for me it holds a special place in my heart. Happy Birthday, Scaled And Icy! 🩵🩷💛 by @whatdoespaulmean
