Great rule to live by: Who’s at your practice in September (preseason) should be who’s at your practice in April (Final Four). When your season becomes a live stream for the world, it’s even more important to protect that space. Everyone knows the key to leadership is consistency. The circumstances can change, but your approach shouldn’t.

Most people would be afraid to have this conversation the night before the national championship. That’s what separates champions. They don’t deviate from their routine. In this case, Paige had spent the year confronting her fears and learning where they came from—and how to overcome them. Her ability to be unconditional with her approach is what allowed her to stay in character when she was headlining on the big stage. by @whatdriveswinning

If you wrote a thank-you note to adversity (as if it were a person), what would you say? When people reflect, they’re usually appreciative of how much stronger adversity made them.

Here’s what’s interesting: it’s hard to have appreciation when you’re in the middle of it, which shows how much inner strength it takes to have unconditional gratitude—and why it inspires us. by @whatdriveswinning

3 Questions to Help Leaders Be Their Best:

1. When are you most proud of yourself?

2. What percent of the time are you that person?

3. What percent of the time are you that person under adversity? How can you increase that number? by @whatdriveswinning

Most people do the opposite: past work becomes the argument for present trust.

Framing trust as “moment-by-moment” is precise. It’s not FROM THE PAST (‘you should trust me because’) or FOR THE FUTURE (‘I’ll earn it over time’). It compresses accountability into the smallest possible unit where every action is load-bearing. That’s elite accountability that builds trust and squashes entitlement. by @whatdriveswinning

Leadership 101: If Your Team Isn’t Listening To You

Understand: Human attention is a finite, selective resource that drifts toward whatever promises the highest rate of return. People are not being disrespectful when they disengage. They are being rational.

Reflect: Sit with the possibility that your material is boring, your delivery is flat, your presence is weak, or the ideas aren’t as good as you thought.

Measure: Read the room as a continuous measurement instrument. They are YOUR greatest teacher.

Remember: When the problem is named (“they won’t listen”), the blame is assigned (“it’s them, not me”), nothing changes. by @whatdriveswinning

3 Signs A Leader Is Process-Driven:
1) They don’t grade their decisions on outcomes.
2) They don’t have double-standards.
3) They don’t positively reinforce good outcomes on poor process.

Note: All their energy flows from a place of what’s the next right thing? If you view leaders from that lens, the elite separate themselves. by @whatdriveswinning

Three Important Lessons on THE NEED FOR AFFIRMATION:

1.) People outsource their emotional regulation to sources that were never reliable to begin with.

2.) Even if the thing happens (the praise, the approval, the recognition) the relief will be temporary, because the need would still be there, requiring the next thing to satisfy it.

3.) The phrase “if you need something from someone else” doesn’t say you’re wrong to have needs. It says you’ve placed the switch for your okayness in someone else’s hands. by @whatdriveswinning
