October reads!!! 🍁✨🎃 by @whatjoannaread

September reads! ✨ by @whatjoannaread

A very rambling book review + some of my favorite quotes — I was not expecting this book to become what it has for me. And I’m still emotional about it. This book made me nostalgic for my own teenage childhood, but also gave me such a longing for a childhood I did not have. I wish I could teleport to my pre-teens and get young Jo to read this book - to give myself the power to be able to articulate all the ways you can love a friend and work through that in a safe way (what books like this are for!). The way the main character Mina hyper-analyzed interactions was SO relatable and so true to how it felt at that age. I’ve never seen (my) feelings regarding friendships, relationships, and social dynamics articulated so well. I had just finished reading Raising Securely Attached Kids and Good Inside, and this was like reading an example of how to parent through this situation (Mina’s mom ❤️), while also giving me a place to analyze how differently I was parented. There was a scene where Mina tells her mom something that happened, where I was so scared for her mom’s reaction (judgement, anger, etc.) and to see the love and care instead was incredibly healing. Ugh, the emotions. Again, a perfect mix of nostalgia for my past and longing for what I wish my teenage years were like. What an amazing debut novel, it was truly the perfect book to me! by @whatjoannaread

August! A very very good reading month. 💓 by @whatjoannaread

July!!! by @whatjoannaread

My goal this weekend was to finish East of Eden and I did it. What a novel. I was very intimidated to read this classic but it was a goal for this year with the adaptation coming out later on; while it took me AWHILE to read (2.5 months, but while reading many other books!), it was so easy to get into and engaging from beginning to end. I will be thinking about these characters and this story for a very long time. Specifically Lee 😭🥹 “And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.” — may be my favorite book quote of all time. 😭❤️‍🩹 by @whatjoannaread

JUNE! by @whatjoannaread

happy first day of summerrrrr ☀️🌼 reading the seasonal quartet since winter has been amazing and so grounding. I started Summer this morning and I’m already underlining lots and giggling. Ali Smith has the most quirky writing style and it really does it for me. Just Autumn to go after this! The Comfort of Crows has been so fun to read through the seasons too — I waited to start the summer weeks until this weekend and it was also so grounding and magical. 🥹 by @whatjoannaread

A very delayed April wrap-up! It’s been a busy 2 months but I’ve been READING 🤪🤓 by @whatjoannaread

March reads! Happy spring! 🌿🌸🪻🪴🐝💓 On my audiobook grind because I am spending so much time outside on walks and doing yard work. Give me all the audio specific recs! My go-tos are memoirs narrated by the author, nature-y non-fiction, and any fun fiction where the audio makes the book! by @whatjoannaread
