Howdy!

I’m Dr McCarthy, a Smith College-educated neuroscience and psychology double-major who went on to University College Dublin School of Medicine and Medical Science for medical school after working in Endocrinology and Metabolism clinical research at Massachusetts General Hospital.

I’ve dabbled in clinical research in Boston (at MGH and the VA, as part of the All of Us Research Program), consulting, and clinical training in Healthy Aging at the Medical College of Georgia and Internal Medicine at an MCG-associated hospital in Georgia.

I’m passionate about healthcare equity, especially in the current healthcare landscape of the US, as well as mental health, what is often described as women’s health, reproductive rights, diabetes and endocrinology, and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.

I also think postgraduate medical training, as well as the patriarchal and competitive atmosphere in medicine in the US leaves a lot to be desired. The structure of training is antiquated and isn’t practical or optimal for learning, while maintaining one’s sanity and wellbeing, in a modern society.

We have work to do, and I continue to hope the arc bends towards a system that values, fairly compensates, and treats our trainees and physicians with respect, as well as a healthcare system that meets the often complex needs of our patients.
