#fashiononthesofafriday Navy blue outfit - again. #so50reworn in a Forgetmenot Patterns lightweight sweatshirt (Viola) and #stokxsquarepants . Early coffee as it’s too wet to go for a walk.
I’m still using up my excessive supplies of cornflour (cornstarch). These are Swiss tarts (my Mum’s recipe) and are like refashioned Viennese Whirls. The criss cross (made with the back of a fork) and the dimple for red jam (made with the end of a wooden spoon) were always my jobs as a child.
These only use 1oz of cornflour per batch though 🙄. Fortunately @5arahel has pointed me I the direction of Nigella’s vanilla shortbread which uses much more. Thank you Sarah. Maybe next week 🧑‍🍳…

#mondaymending I heard it ‘go’ as I reached across to turn off the bedside light. The underarm of my night/tee shirt had ripped.
Fortunately I had already saved a suitable patch of white cotton jersey when I repaired the underarm on the other side. It was pinned and stitched to the inside and then the hole edges on the outside were stitched to the new patch. Not very visible from the outside and looking a bit like a vintage dress shield on the inside!

It’s the little things … (yes, handmade bags 😮 and new labels: Elke knows I covet a label!)
they have all added up to have made a very bigly memorable couple of Frocktails days. @londonfrocktails
Thank you to the wonderful organisers @susanyoungsewing @ooobop @offshesews and @sewthreadbear - you are an excellent team!
Thanks to @sewing_in_spain for organising a gang of us. And thanks to Tricia @morrissews for being a willing victim of my own organisational skills.
I feel so privileged to have met and re-met online friends - so many made an overseas journey. That the @sewover50 magic.

Student Son had a birthday last month. I made him a ‘monkey shirt’ and a card with a few monkey scraps. Actually the print has monkeys, lemurs and sloths - covering a range of his favourite tree dwellers and came from @fabricsgalorelondon .
I reduced the width of the sleeves and the length of the shirt to suit his preferences. The print matches across the front - tricky to see in this photo.
Red thread in the sewing machine! Whatever next?!

It was a Repair Café weekend and I spent my time teaching a 20 year old how to darn her socks. She started not knowing blanket stitch, and finished with two firework darns mending thin patches on one sock. She left with some yarn so that the second sock could be done tomorrow match.
The jeans belong to her mother! They split while playing table tennis in the garden 😳. Interfacing on the inside (holding the split together in LH photo) and machine darning on the outside. The denim is quite stretchy so it may not last for long - long enough for another table tennis game maybe 😉.

The sun is streaming in today for #fashiononthesofafriday ! Not least because I cleaned the windows yesterday 😇.
I’m #so50reworn in a double gauze Cora blouse (@patternunion ) and #stokxsquarepants . Baking was for last night’s pudding: plum cinnamon crumble . A Delia Smith recipe, and I followed the suggestion to make a nutty wholemeal topping. 😋

My Makes for September are:
A sleeveless Birdie top (@stokxpatterns ) from a vintage tablecloth
A TwoPartTank/Carla skirt dress (also Stokxpatterns) in stonewashed cotton from @fabricsgalorelondon and
A Copelia cardigan (@papercutpatterns ) in printed cotton jersey.

Emergency 🚨 Monday Mending today. The back pocket area of husband’s suit trousers (which i’d previously reinforced with a bit of interfacing) has actually broken through. And the interfacing was no longer there.
A quick replacement patch (inside), a press and he went off to the airport. I have warned him to keep his jacket on ‘just in case’. 😳

#fashiononthesofafriday and I’m #so50reworn in a shortened TAL oversized shirt and lightweight #stokxsquarepants . I’ve been doing my annual kitchen audit/cupboard clear out so this week’s baking is a Cranberry Crunch Pie to use up a part packet of frozen cranberries, a part packet of digestive biscuits (Graham crackers 🇺🇸) and a rather sad packet of marshmallows. There’s a can of evaporated milk on the ‘mousse’ filling too. 😋
It’s a Canadian recipe of my Mum’s and a childhood favourite of mine and of my brother.
I also found 3! packets of cornflour. Why?🤷‍♀️ Must have been a shopping list error. Any suggestions welcome.

Lindy @stokxpatterns has been high the versatility of the TwoPartTank/Carla pattern. Here is my changing season version 🍂. #sagamseasonseptember
The dress/pinafore is made in stonewashed cotton (I had to have a plain navy version 😂) and I have made a wrap cardigan (the Papercut Coppelia which has been unmade in my cupboard for over 8 years). The cardigan provides sleeves and a bit more warmth, while defining the waist, I think. And access to the fantastic skirt pockets remains unhindered. 😀

I heard a joke made by Stephen Hawking:
Where to you find a Black Hole?
In a black sock.
So I give you (courtesy of my husband) a Black Hole and its mend. Also I have refreshed an office chair with bicarbonate of soda and re proofed my waterproof coat (which was my Mum’s).
