In the early days, we called ourselves Aeroplane Mode — inspired by our studio routine: 1. Step inside the claustrophobic studio, 2. Put phones on airplane mode, 3. Get tf to work.
After recording, we’d set aside a little time to plan the release of our work. We decided on fruit. Specifically bananas. Bananas are tangible objects, direct from the earth——more importantly they’re readily available at any corner bodega, at any hour of the day or night. Easy. Other than the photos we took with our phones, there were few other digital components, not because we were purists but because we were simplifiers and that simplified the process. This routine worked — the ability to disconnect to reconnect to ourselves and our thoughts and our ideas, really worked. Our first releases went viral and we started gigging.. and all of this happened before changing our name to Satellite Mode.

10 years ago, we unknowingly formed our band—-we started writing together at Alex’s apartment—recording songs simply because we had to. We didn’t talk about our reasons why but you could feel the collective purpose in the room. Microphones on. **Phones Off** (something we found necessary for quality outcome). Ideas rolling. After many months of simply showing up in the same space, we formed opinions and ideas as to what we were doing, why we were doing it and how to keep our new project, back then known as “Aeroplane Mode”, going strong. Happy 10 to us & happy 10 to you — thank you for listening 🔟🤙 taken in New York, New York by @whereismarko

Sepia (LAAYERS Remix) is out now!

This track was born out of a desire to get lost in a meditative and dream-like state. When Ryan Andrews (LAAYERS) transformed it into this cinematic and explosive composition, we knew it was something special to share with you all.

Honored to have produced and co-written this song with Meg Smith. She’s a natural talent and timeless songwriter, not to mention an expert on studio snacks. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @whereismarko
