I guess in some cruel way it’s fitting one of the hardest working guys you ever knew - died on Labor Day Weekend.

But there is absolutely no glory in losing a great one way too soon. Tommy York, you were the greatest. And you will be missed in a way that will punch a hole in the heart of Ann Arbor forever.

Tommy, I’m pretty sure that many of us - will never know how to have a cup of coffee without your morning smile.

Tommy owned and ran YORK- the best coffee/meat/wine/hangout in Ann Arbor, just blocks from us. You walked away from almost every cup of coffee or cold beer by learning something from him. His smile and attention to you, got you thru the tough days. HIs believe in you, even when you didn’t see it - stuck to you in a way that you wanted to prove him right.

A father/husband/friend first - our conversations always started with family and ended with ways to the good life. He knew the way too - and he pulled you with him. I can’t tell you how many times we had a great talk while he was washing a window - because sitting still was never his thing.

I was lucky to work on Carhartt and York became my Carhartt home office for 13 years. Mostly because Tommy created the ultimate space for ideas and people to thrive in. And Tommy, a constant hard worker, a hunter, a gatherer. a blue collar machine, armed with wise words and a work ethic - became my muse. There wasn’t a carhartt idea I didn’t share with him. His approval, his wisdom, his attention became the only check mark a man needed. I wanted what Tommy had so bad - I asked him if my son could bus boy for him just so he could learn from him. Of course Tommy hired him. Of course Tommy showed up when you needed him. Of course Tommy made you feel better about the day ahead. Of course the wisest guy in Ann Arbor made his way to you by slicing you your meat and cheese.

There isn’t a Tommy York in Ann Arbor and there never will be again. I would tell you to rest easy, Tommy, but that’s just not you. And we all loved you for it. 💔 by @whereyabennett

No because a Bears fan is always in mourning. by @whereyabennett

16 years ago (last night) the Mighty Mary Sol came into our lives. She was two weeks late, foreshadowing the fact that she would be late the rest of her life. Feisty from the jump, stubborn from the get go - Thank God the lord blessed her with a humor and a smile that makes you want to be around her all the time. She's our middle kid. Our tough little rock - she'll knock your lights out on the field or with her wit. She does all of this while playing the part of a book nerd whose a really kind human - with an admirable sense of herself, her family and her roots.

Mary Sol was born in Chicago, on a Monday Night in 2010, Jen's water broke not long before MNF kick off of the Bears vs Packers. You could imagine my stress. (About the baby...not the game...how dare you think other wise???) Luckily, Hester returned a punt 60 yard and the Bears kicked a game winning FG - all while we watched the game from the hospital bed. Jen gave birth to her one hour after the Bears won. Holy Sweetness. No wonder Sol's first soccer number was 34.

To take Sol into Chicago last night for MNF for her 16th birthday (she asked for it...I swear) and to watch a 3rd string QB beat the big bad Eagles...all of it tells us there's so much more magic, that Mary Sol has left to share with us all.

love ya mary sol - keep going by @whereyabennett

So my mom in the most my mom thing ever drove up from Chicago to visit us…and brought us a 1/2 of a pork chop.
