THIS SATURDAY! Join us for the opening of “VIGNETTES” a solo show by Matty Whitcomb at the Where y’Art Works Gallery.

A vignette can simply be defined as a brief description or a self-contained impression.

These paintings are Vignettes of my thoughts, Vignettes of my life, and Vignettes of New Orleans.

Vignettes of my thoughts like glimpses of my ideas - ideas that I have explored, tested, and drawn conclusions from. Ideas that have inspired other ideas.

Vignettes of my life in moments and phases, sewn with my personality and the accumulation of my experiences. Growth rings of my age.

Vignettes of New Orleans through featured figures - the muses - people who are the essential threads in the fabric of the city; they are the ones who tend to us, educate us, and care for us in our time of need. My friends.

Each painting is a part of my life, an idea I had, and something I admire.
Each painting is a piece of me.

Please, join us!

Sneak peek! Join us tomorrow for the opening of “The State of the Art,” A show celebrating the uniqueness of the human experience, expressed through the act of making art. It is ART as a reflection of ideas, identity, tradition, and culture that shape this moment in time.

Art is a human endeavor.
Through discovery and self-expression, we become who we are.
Our lived experiences shape our perspective, and the artist serves
as a truth-teller.

Life is art, and art is life.
In the age of AI, the State of the Art is more important than ever.
A computer has never laughed, been heartbroken, or felt loss.
It is through the journey, the highs, the lows, and the process of becoming that we find our voice.

Behind every Where y’Art Works project is a network of local artists, fabricators, framers, photographers, printers, installers, and creative collaborators helping bring ideas to life.
What started as an online platform connecting artists with collectors has grown into a full-service art consulting company working across healthcare, hospitality, public art, and immersive experiences.
No matter the scale of the project, the goal stays the same: create meaningful spaces while investing directly back into the local creative community. taken in Where y'Art Works by @whereyartworks

Art changes the way a space feels.
Not just how it looks.

How people connect to it. How they move through it. How they remember it.

From healthcare environments to hotels, public art activations to immersive experiences. Where y’Art Works connects organizations and individuals with local artists who create work for and about the communities they serve.

Art should enhance your work environment and communicate your organization’s brand and personality, but investing in local art has the power to do so much more.

Do you have an idea for a creative project? Let’s work together.

WHERE Y’ART WORKS FOR ARTISTS

“I have been drawing and painting since an early age. I graduated from Delgado in 2001. I sold art in Pirate’s Alley in 2003, and have been exhibiting in art shows around the city for almost two decades, most recently co-curating the ‘Top Mob: A History of New Orleans Graffiti’ exhibit at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. My art ranges from graphic design to large scale indoor/outdoor murals, as well as acrylic and mixed media on canvas. I am also proficient with charcoal figure drawings and illustration. Since 2007, I have owned a commercial screen printing and embroidery business in New Orleans. In 2016 I started New Orleans Paint + Design to cater to the growing demand for public and private mural commissions and art installation.”
-Gabriel Flowers

Gabe has been commissioned for several commercial projects through Where y’Art Works, including Nola.com (https://nola.com/) 300 for 300 project, the NFL Super Bowl LIX: Opening Night Live Painting, NFL Super Bowl LIX: Game Day, and Roots of Resilience: The LCMC Health Tree of Life. taken in Where y'Art Works by @whereyartworks

Where y’Art Works for Ochsner Health Center - Kenner

Once again, Where y’Art Works joined forces with Ochsner Health Center – Kenner and local artist Bruna Pétalla to create “Where the Bayou Blooms,” a collection of murals within the space that transforms the healing environment through color, culture, and a strong sense of place.

Inspired by the natural beauty of South Louisiana, the murals blend abstract geometric forms with flowing botanical elements, creating a balance between structure and organic movement. Bruna incorporated native flora and subtle musical references that celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage while fostering a welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

The color palette draws from Ochsner’s branding, combining soft neutrals, muted blues, and warm accents of yellow, orange, and indigo. The result is a calming yet vibrant composition that brings warmth, energy, and a connection to the local landscape into the healthcare setting.

Through thoughtful design and local artistry, Where the Bayou Blooms demonstrates how public art can enhance healthcare environments, creating spaces that promote comfort, well-being, and community connection. taken in Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner by @whereyartworks

Congratulations to Harlin Miller, whose work was selected as part of the permanent collection at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center!

Harlin Miller was commissioned for a vinyl installation, titled “Unlabored Remains.”

“Unlabored Remains” is a custom photographic installation created specifically for this
site and scale. The work is not a compilation of existing images, but the result of a
multi-phase creative and research-driven process designed to honor the people,
labor, and lived histories that have shaped New Orleans and its relationship to the
Mississippi River.

This project required extensive research and community engagement to identify
individuals whose work represents the often-unseen forces behind the city’s cultural
identity—craft workers, culinary legacies, musicians, builders, tradespeople,
immigrants, and multi-generational families whose labor has forged the land,
infrastructure, and traditions that define New Orleans. Each participant is
approached with care and intention, ensuring their presence in the work is dignified,
collaborative, and respectful.

Every image is produced through individually organized portrait sessions and
material studies, photographed specifically for large-scale architectural presentation. Unlabored
Remains offers a nuanced reflection on labor, community, and place, inviting viewers
to consider what endures after the work itself has been done.”

Congratulations to Carlos Mendieta, whose work was selected as part of the permanent collection at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center!

“When I first started visiting New Orleans, one of the first things that drew me in was
the dual effect the city had on me. On the one hand, the city offered an opportunity
to get lost as well as explore a limitless potential of new and lost worlds. Once I
disappeared inside the quarter, the world I came from immediately vanished and
was forgotten. Visually, I chose to suggest this idea of being lost and found,
simultaneously. By depicting New Orleans’ French Quarter rooftops barely peaking
above the bottom of the frame, creating an air of mystery and anticipation for all of
the worlds waiting to be discovered just below the rooftops on the streets below,
while the world I came from is also unknown and lost, far off in the night, past the
horizon.”
