‘Dad at 72’ is on show in the Upriver Downriver exhibition at @maitlandregionalartgallery , as part of Confluence, with the @whip_collective

‘My father stands in his vegetable garden, next to the pumpkin he grew. At 72, he tends to his vegetables with quiet patience, loading his ute to deliver them to family, friends and neighbours, expecting nothing in return.

His selfless care, season after season, feels almost radical in a fast-paced, self indulgent world, full of disconnection and overconsumption. This portrait reflects the quiet pride and devotion woven into a life of tending and giving. A life lived close to the land, where even the simplest harvest nurtures connection, contribution and community.’

As you can see, my Dad Geoff doesn’t do things by halves…

‘I’m going down the paddock to put a veggie garden in’ turned into a footy field’s worth of pumpkins, zucchini and watermelon. He’s a good man, that’s for sure 🤎

Upriver Downriver comes to a close this weekend, with the wrap-up party happening tonight at MRAG as part of @mymaitland Riverlights.

Upriver Downriver Riverlights Wrap Up! Can you say that three times quickly? 🎉🎉🎉

To celebrate the final weekend of our Upriver Downriver exhibition, and in partnership with Maitland Riverlights, the Gallery will be open late on Friday 9 October. From 6pm, come enjoy Pacific Island dances with @salafaicentral, and a hands-on crocodile decorating workshop with @___titanbaker___. There’ll be snacks, @boydells1826 wine, and free seedlings from the sustainability team.

It’s a great way to kickstart the Riverlights weekend, with cultural festivities happening all along the Levee and Hunter Riverbank 🎉 by @whip_collective

Thrilled to be a part of Confluence by @whip_collective at Upriver Downriver exhibition @maitlandregionalartgallery.

This is one of a series of photographs in an ongoing project, The Binding Sea, which documents the ocean as a connector of communities, in particular women.
This particular image, capturing the fizz and joy of a swimming meeting at a rock pool on Awabakal Country, is a simple but vital reminder that while we can all feel alone in life, the mere act of getting together in nature can immeasurably lighten the load and mood, always amplified when floating in the ocean. (I’ve placed a 🤍 only here, just in case Insta is being prudish)

With thanks to my swimming sisters for your encouragement on this one. 🧜‍♀️

‘The Meeting Place’ was created in collaboration with @garwoeidhamin.mayan, a First Nations collective of three separate songlines, three stories, one journey. A meeting place for all to gather, its meaning: ‘Come together at the waterhole’. The collective’s movements draw from the essence of their Culture and Stories, the fluidity of our saltwaters and the embrace of our freshwaters. Healing and cleansing internally, whilst drawing the power from connections and the balance of land and sea. by @whip_collective

'Untamed'
.
These portraits reflect a person deeply rooted in the rhythms of the natural world. With a background in threatened flora conservation, Tricia brings passion into the community, facilitating women’s nature gatherings and Landcare. Rejecting gendered social norms, new paths are forged by savouring wild solitude and nurturing bonds with land and self-connection. Tricia’s recent embrace of goat ownership also weaves a historic thread through the images, drawing on the goat’s symbolic links to witchcraft in Western art, and a nod to her defiant relationship with cultural narratives. These portraits aim to reflect Tricia’s strong bond with nature and her unapologetic individuality, inviting the viewer to consider the ways we cultivate our own connection, to the untamed.

This was a really special portrait session with long time collaborator @triciaeco . 'Untamed' (triptych) is currently showing amongst the work of other @whip_collective members within the latest installment of @maitlandregionalartgallery 's exhibition, 'Upriver Downriver'.

The ‘Upriver Downriver’ exhibition @maitlandregionalartgallery was officially celebrated in style last night.
Chuffed to have my work included in the @whip_collective ‘s digital piece CONFLUENCE. ✨
Thank you to @hithereclare and @brydiepiaf for curating 20 individual photographic and/or video creations into something elevated beyond the sum of its parts. 💪
Great to see so many WHIPpers at the opening last night, and what a tremendous group of artists in this epic exhibition. Highly recommend you visit!
And thank you to my beautiful daughter & niece who came along to support me on a chilly night. ❄️

‘The drift’
Over summer, I became devoted to capturing images of coastal saltwater gardens, to draw attention to their fragile beauty and encourage a deeper appreciation of the significance and ecological importance of these complex, vital habitats. Firmly focused on the ocean floor, I almost missed capturing this image of dislodged yet elegant seaweed, both intimate and expansive.
