For our next Cat News story, we're headed to Long Beach, California, where a one-eyed rescue cat named Likho has become a local celebrity. 🐱📰

Likho first came into Elizabeth Kobliha's life after she saw a Facebook post from the Stray Cat Alliance about a one-eyed Russian Blue who desperately needed a home.

He had spent the first five years of his life living in a cat hoarding situation before being abandoned. He was living on the streets in Hancock Park and needed a home. After extensive medical treatment, including surgery to remove one of his eyes, he was finally ready for adoption.

"Something about his pictures and the way Sia described him made me melt a little," Elizabeth shared. "So, sight unseen, I put in an application to adopt him."

She admits she was nervous.

"I hadn't even met him yet, and I was PRAYING he would be a good fit for the shop."

As luck would have it...

"He is PURRRFECT for us."

Today, Likho spends his days greeting customers at Long Beach Vintage Etc., rubbing his cheeks on visitors' shoes, napping in display cabinets, happily wearing silly costumes, and reminding everyone who walks through the door that he's the king of the shop.

"What makes Likho so special to everyone who visits the shop is that he's just one of those irrepressibly good creatures. His first five years of life were so hard, but that has never once dimmed his light or his capacity for love, and people can feel that."

This year, friends and fans gathered to celebrate Likho's 15th birthday at his very own "Catciñera."

"My favorite moment from his fifteenth birthday celebration was having all his friends and fans come through to see him and celebrate with him."

Elizabeth hopes Likho's story inspires more people to consider adopting older cats.

"I wish more people knew that adopting older cats is way better than adopting kittens. Kittens are a crap shoot. With older cats, you can gauge their personalities and temperaments. Likho is proof of both those points."

Came looking for toilet paper, left wanting a cat. Because once you've seen the future, it's hard to go back. Especially when it fits just about anywhere.

Still using the ol' sniff test method? Sounds like you’re still stuck in the past.

Cat people have a more sophisticated way of knowing who just blew up the litter box. They get a notification on their phone. Obviously.

While cat people are living in the future (one that scoops itself), dog people are really out here questioning their life choices, warm bag of poop in tow.

While dog people are out there weathering the old ways, a brighter future has arrived. It’s cleaner. Smarter. Dare we say, cooler. And leaves dog people wondering if they maybeeee backed the wrong pet.

The campaign for catkind has begun. Here’s to not getting left out in the rain.

The Future is Feline.
