“Since the 1970s, Damanhur has been exploring communication with the plant world. As a part of this research, Damanhur researchers have created an instrument capable of detecting electromagnetic variations from the surface of the plant leaves to the root system. Such variations are then translated into sound through a MIDI interface. They discovered that the pulse streams of each organism are unique, with each plant manifesting its own individual biological “signature sound”.

Science increasingly supports the concept that plants operate with an innate intelligence and logic different from our own. Indeed, plants demonstrate that they can learn to interact with humans. At first, the plants simply seem to realize that the sounds emitted by the device are a consequence of their electric activity, then they learn to modulate their impedence to change the sounds.

More expert plants, eventually, can use the sounds they modulate to interact with humans and create a real form of communication. When they interact with musicians for example, they sometimes even repeat the same scales, the same tunes and the same notes.“

You are allowed to rest.

You do not have to earn it by exhausting yourself first. You do not have to finish every task, answer every message, or hold everything together before you give yourself a moment to breathe.

The world will ask things of you tomorrow, too. There will always be something waiting, something unfinished, something that could use more of you.

But you are a living being, not a machine. Even the earth has seasons of stillness. Even the trees release what they can no longer carry.

Let yourself be still like calm waters—without guilt. Let your body soften. Let your mind grow quiet. Let the unfinished things remain unfinished for a while.

Rest is not a reward for doing enough. It is a part of being alive.

Give yourself permission to pause. To be held by the quiet. To simply be, without needing to become anything more tonight.

There is an old tree in Sinnemahoning State Park that has carried a her story for generations. I’ve spent many years returning to her since childhood.

Known as the Arch Tree, she bends low to the earth before rising again—an unusual shape that has long been believed to be the remnant of an Indigenous trail marker.

Long before this became a state park, these mountains were traveled by Native peoples along the Sinnemahoning Path, a route following the West Branch Susquehanna and Sinnemahoning waterways through the mountains. The name itself comes from the word Achsinnimahoni, meaning “stony lick.” Possibly in reference to a natural salt lick that existed at the mouth of Grove Run near the town of Sinnemahoning.

A sapling could be bent and secured to the earth, allowing it to continue growing in a distinctive direction. These trees could point toward a trail, a crossing, a spring, or another place of importance. The form remained long after the people who shaped it had passed through.

Standing beneath its great arch, it is easy to imagine the forest before roads, railroads, and boundary lines—when the mountains themselves were the map.

This beautiful sugar maple stands protected today nestled within the state park, carrying ancient wisdom to share with the visitors who choose to listen—only she knows the truth of her arch.

The sugar maple…
Long before maple syrup became a familiar staple, folks begun gathering the first sweet sap of spring. Sugar maple was an important source of sweetness and nourishment, with sap used fresh, reduced into sugar, and made into other foods and beverages.

The sugar maple has deep roots in these northern forests— growing abundantly in the rich soils of the mountain valleys.

If you haven’t read the book “Braiding Sweetgrass”, I highly recommend it! She speaks of tapping maples with her young daughters. As well as many other references to what I experience in Pennsylvania seasons.

Welcome to a new chapter for Whispering Roots Apothecary. 🌿

Our loose-leaf tea collection has found a new home in our newly rebranded tins — earthy, botanical, and made to feel like they belong on an apothecary shelf.

Inside are the same thoughtfully blended herbs, roots, flowers, berries, and spices I’ve always loved working with. Outside, a new look that feels much more like Whispering Roots.

Each blend was created with a different intention — from grounding and rest to clarity, resilience, warmth, and simply making space to slow down with a cup of tea.

Whole herbs. Loose leaf. Small-batch blends.

Our new labels also include a sensory paragraph and a little detail on each individual tea! I’m so very pleased with this huge leap in rebrand. (Fire Horse energy 2026!)

The new tins are here. And I’m so excited to finally share them with you. 🤎

The website is slowly being updated with our new look! Visit our looseleaf tea collection on our website! (Link in bio).

Wild Aster carries the gentle wisdom of trusting what is unfolding rather than forcing what we desire. Its late-season blooms arrive as the landscape begins to turn inward, offering a reminder that not everything must be pushed into being.

This essence teaches us to release the pressure to strive, perform, or carry everything alone while offering strength and gentleness. It encourages a deeper trust in our own path and in the unseen support surrounding us, allowing inspiration to move naturally into expression and action.

Wild Aster is a beautiful companion when you are working toward something meaningful but find yourself caught in self-doubt, pressure, or the feeling that you must make everything happen through effort alone. It invites clarity, authentic self-expression, and the freedom to move with purpose without losing yourself in the process.

Goldenrod is an essence of self-trust, individuality, and inner strength. Its golden blooms rise boldly above the late-summer landscape, offering a beautiful reminder that we do not have to become smaller or change who we are to belong.

Goldenrod invites authenticity, integrity, and strength, while releasing emotional disharmony. This essence may be an ally to those who are easily influenced by the expectations, opinions, or energy of others — those who may lose touch with their own knowing while trying to fit in, please others, or maintain harmony. Goldenrod encourages us to return to ourselves, listen inwardly, and stand confidently in our own truth.

In Celtic folklore, hawthorn was never simply a tree. She is Sacred.

A lone hawthorn was believed to be a dwelling place of the Sídhe — the fairy people — and a doorway between the human world and the Otherworld. Because of this, these trees were treated with great care. To cut one, damage its branches, or disturb its roots was to risk offending what could not be seen.

Instead, people left offerings.

Ribbons were tied to its branches. Coins and small gifts were left at its roots. Prayers and wishes were carried to the tree.

Hawthorn is regarded as a tree of protection and Sacred boundary — not the kind that creates a wall between us and the world, but the kind that stands watch at the threshold.

She bears the most beautiful medicine in autumn, and will guard her berries/fruits fiercely. Her branches are woven with the sharpest of thorns- tenderness and protection growing in harmony.

Hawthorn berries, flowers and leaves have a long history in herbalism, where her medicine has been cherished for its gentle affinity with the heart and circulation. There is something beautiful in that deep connection — a tree whose very branches speak of guardianship and self-preservation, while its leaves and berries have been gathered as medicine for the heart.

There is something magical about being present with her in the stillness of Autumn — berries glowing red among the leaves, thorns standing their ground on the branches setting a sacred and firm boundary for itself. She teaches me to protect my energy and watches over my heart so that it may remain open.

Harvesting the berries is something Sacred. One must always be fully present and intentional (as with every medicine). Hawthorn is sure to remind you of careless behaviors with the wrath of her thorns. Those of you who have harvested the berries know this all too well.

For grief/loss, heart healing, learning to set healthy and sacred boundaries and fierce protection- Hawthorn may be a beautiful flower essence for you to journey with.

Spotted Jewelweed is an essence of patience, emotional ease, and renewed movement. Known for its delicate orange blossoms and seedpods that burst at the slightest touch, this wildflower offers a reflection of the tension that can build when we feel easily irritated, overwhelmed, or unable to move beyond a difficult situation.

This essence teaches us to work on impatience, emotional sensitivity, and frustration, inviting us to soften our reactions and find greater calm in the face of life’s irritations. It encourages a more spacious response to challenging circumstances, helping us release the tension of feeling stuck and reconnect with our natural capacity to adapt and move forward.

A gentle companion for times when emotions feel close to the surface, patience wears thin, or resistance makes it difficult to find your next step. Spotted Jewelweed reminds us that we can meet life’s challenges with greater composure, flexibility, and ease.

We spend so much of our lives being taught to separate ourselves from the natural world.

To see ourselves as observers instead of participants.
As something different from the trees, the water, the soil, the creatures moving quietly around us.

But that separation is something we learned.

Beneath all the noise and conditioning, there is a deeper knowing: we belong here. We are made of the same earth, carried by the same water, breathing the same air.

Maybe that is why wild places can feel so familiar.

They don’t give us something we didn’t have.

They remind us of something we forgot.

May you always remember how connected you truly are. You were never separate from the wild.

The wild is in you still.
