No wins today (that's me on the left 🙃)

6 matches this weekend at Grappling Industries NH. I usually don't get many matches because of my age, so I signed up for the absolutes in Gi and NoGi just to make sure I at least got to fight at least somebody once.
All the fighters put it to me hard and I applauded them all! They all showed me different things that were really tough for me to defend and really gave me homework to take back and work on for next time.

Even though there was no GOLD around my neck there were little victories along the way:
This was the first time I competed under 200lbs. I actually have not weighed under 199 in probably 30 YEARS! I have to thank my team @flowbjj_maine and my S&C coach Sandy Martz @flow_strength_maine for giving me to tools and beleiving in me that I could get to my weight goal. Much Appreciation!

And even with the losses I made friends with my competitors and even got some "keep it up, you're awesomes" from them. I'll take those and good feeling of a hard days work anytime.

"Even the sun shines on a dog's ass some days" - Sidney Deane, White Men Can't Jump (1992)

This was pleasantly unexpected!

When you're in class every week and your in rolls with all of your teammates you aren't necessarily stepping back and looking at yourself objectively on how you are learning and progressing. But if you try hard, listen to what you're being told to work on and fix by your professor and more experienced teammates..... sometimes rays of enlightenment fall upon your sweat soaked Gi.

Or you finally learned to get smashed less...but still smashed nonetheless! HA!
53 and rolling with the young buck

Can't make progress without a great Professor guiding you, your teammates working right along with you and your family supporting you

This is more fun than words can say!

It feels mighty fine to get a stripe added to my white belt and knowing I'm working to better myself, BUT it's soooo much sweeter when I get a stripe the day my SON gets his 4th stripe on his purple belt 💜
You've turned into a real role model for me to look up to on this jiu jitsu journey.

@adcc_official Atlantic City Open 2024

Was a STACKED Three Man Beginner Old Guy Husky Weight Bracket! 🤣

I didn't win today.
My opponents both worked me over pretty hard and believe you me, the aches and pains I'm feeling today are letting me know it's going to take a minute for this 52 year old body to recover.

But did I lose?

A Win - Got a chance to compete at an an ADCC Event! How bad ass is it that I just competed on THE SAME mats as some of the most amazing and accomplished Jiu Jitsu Atheletes out there. SERIOUS Bucket List check off.

A Win - Got to see and support my @flowbjj_maine teammates @meg_gleasner winning Gold in her Bracket and @jacob.sonia.315
taking Silver in his. Nothing can compare to being live matside watching high level competitors do battle. It's epic.

A Win- My esteemed professor @prof_haydenbjj telling me good job, he sees improvement, and now let's get back in the gym and work on some stuff and improve on technique. I can't ask for a more supportive and better place to learn and grow at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu than @flowbjj_maine

A Win - When @tomdeblass takes time out of his already busy day to ask me how I did, shake me hand, and tells me he's proud that I'm out here competing... There are just moments where you feel almost like this isn't real and you have to ask if it really happened. Definitely a humbling and honored experience.

A Win - I started training maybe 2 years ago. At that time I weighed in at 243 (wrote it down so I could keep track). I weighed in for this comp at 98.3kg (216.7 lbs). Super happy about this as I have wanted to use BJJ and the strength and fitness training that goes along with it to get in better shape. #2024goals to compete in the -91kg brackets. 199 lbs here I come!

I feel like after this only way it can all go is up
